Three years after he gave himself up to American soldiers without firing a shot, Saddam Hussein may be condemned to hang on Sunday if an Iraqi court finds him guilty of crimes against humanity.

Saddam, 69, and seven co-accused have been charged with crimes against humanity for the killing of 148 Shi'ite villagers after an attempt on his life in the town of Dujail in 1982.

If convicted, Saddam faces death by hanging, a prospect Shi'ite Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, with some disregard for judicial independence, has said cannot come soon enough.

I think a more appropriate sentence would be to put him in a cell outside, in the middle of the town square and let people mock at him. Then after he's been verbally humiliated, but him on custodial duty and keep him on display for people to watch him clean toilets. It would be quite a tourist attraction... "Hey, I flew to Iraq to see Saddam on display." Maybe even place one of the many statues he had of himself in his cell as a reminder of his glory days.
