Just be happy you guys made it this far. Way better than having an approved petition 6 weeks ago n still not received by NVC. Sure feels like a record breaker. Jamaica can be so backwards at times. Sometimes I feel like the IOs are just bad minded n dont want to see people leave the island I swear. I dont c y or what difference does it make if he has proof of divorce papers smh. yes he is married to her, but they want papers proving he is no longer married to someone else.

just to verify, they have proof of divorce. seems like they wany details of the divorce. They have the ORIGINAL divorce document from the court. For whatever reason they want more details. We would not be past the NVC phase if there was not proof of divorce.

Thank-you. I know I should be happy I am this far and I am. As you know road blocks suck,.from your story I know you feel the same pain just in a different phase of the process. The system is so backwards. They have all the original proof they need. What difference do the full details really make. Its a done deal. The divorce and a new marriage very real and legit.

Jamaica requires an original copy of a divorce CERTIFICATE,.not a divorce decree. Guess they gey to make the rules as they go along. Smh another sleepless night..

I never said he did not have it, I still don't know if that is what they want at this point and!! I am asking questions WHY do they want it, not what my husband has or doesn't have at this point.

Could be for a host of reasons:

1)The person handling your case at the embassy is VERY thorough.

2)You have 'green' CO who wants to make sure everything is spiffy.

3)The embassy just wants a complete picture for your case specifically. Maybe there's an abnormality with the divorce certificate and they want to ensure the outstanding documents support what the DC says.

Honestly, I don't think that anyone here can tell you exactly "Why" the embassy / consulate needs the divorce decree despite having the original divorce certificate. Only the Consul Officer and the people at embassy will know but they never tell. We can only tell "What" to do, just follow through and send what was requested.

At Islamabad Embassy in Pakistan, they ask for a divorce decree in Urdu (native language) even though the Union Councils have ceased to issue that decree like 8 years ago.

So basically they are asking for something which does not exist anymore but they still ask and no reason stated whatsoever. The only thing you can do is move forward without asking why or lose your way in that black hole. Choice is yours.

He should have received a document indicating what the embassy wants to see. Ask him to scan it to you. The directions for the next step should be on there as well. Meaning getting an interview back on the books. The reason you may not be getting too many people responding to "WHY" they need these documents...you may not ever get the answer to. While it may show my profile as a newer VJ member...I go waaaaaaayyyy back. I dont recall seeing too many cases whereas the Jamaican was previously married. I suggest not focusing on the WHY but the HOW. How to get the documents needed and how to get the interview.

So true. Divorces are hard to come by in Jamaica (not saying it doesn't happen, but it's not 50% or higher rate like in the USA), so when the CO sees one, they probably want to know the full story. I think my mother is still married and she's been a USC for about 10 years now. Her husband is in Jamaica somewhere, but they're no longer together.
