Hi VJers,

I'd like to ask something.. I got here in the US for almost a month already and haven't received my SSN yet. I have applied for it along with my visa application. Any one here who had the same thing as mine? Any inputs will be much appreciated.

Thanks! :)

Sometimes those on IR-1/CR-1 do not receive their SSNs. You should find the local SSA office and go visit them when a month is up with proper ID and immigration status and see where your SSN is. You may need to just apply for one while there.

Good lcuk,

Dave

I heard this happening before. Best bet is to go to your local SS office, fill out a very short form, give them your passport and I-94 card and get your SS card.

Hi Zac,

No, I haven't received my actual green card yet same thing as my SSN. I think it would take 2 months or so to receive the actual green card.

CR-1/IR-1 visa holders are NEVER issued I-94s at the CBP .

So, that 'K-1 visa holder' who was trying to be helpful?

Stop it, and thanks in advance !

Oh, sorry! I am actually referring to the actual physical green card as stated by Zac on his response above. Thanks for correcting me. Appreciated.

Not a problem, just don't want you confused.

I-94 passes are used to record entry and departure into the US and are pieces of paper stapled into your passport (at least that's what they are when my husband gets them) then he has to turn them back in when he leaves the US to prove he left on time.
