have not seen it..and probably will not until it comes on video....i like Borat, i think he is funny and unique...

sanita, a kazakhstan citizen does not share my view,. as she sees him as offensive to others, espeically Jewish community, who are wll respected in Kazakhstan, plus his relations with his sister, in her view has no humor...\

so, to adviod a trip to the backyard, with the bassett, doberman and lab..

i'll wait ...

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

The movie was pretty funny - especially considering how many scrapes with the law Sacha Baron Cohen must have got himself into to make it. I seem to remember hearing about that Pamela Anderson thing on the news earlier this year (really hard to believe he didn't get assault charges for that), and the Mortgage Association Conference.... all you can say is... wow.

I'm in two minds about the character - it is a stereotype, and much of the character's appeal seems to lie in how little westerners know about Kazakhs: their society, culture and history.

I think I will watch it tomorrow.

The people that 'get it' know it's satire. People that don't get it and think he is really from Kazakhstan are a lost cause anyways. IMHO. This will boost tourism.. just watch.

Wow!! it's getting a 96% on Rotten Tomatoes.

I like the bit at the rodeo where Borat is greeted with cheers when he tells the crowd:

"We support your War OF Terror!"

*APPLAUSE*

"We support our boys in Iraq!"

*APPLAUSE*

and hypes them up more:

"May George W. Bush drink the blood of every man, woman and child in Iraq!"

*APPLAUSE* (although at this point there is an uneasy murmur running through the crowd.)

Borat continues:

"May the land be destroyed that not even a lizard may live there for a thousand years!"

(We see a close-up of one man yelling "Yeah!")

He then sings the "Kazakh national anthem", to the tune of the Star Spangled Banner:

Kazakhstan is the Best

Nation in the World

All other nations

Are run by little girls

Kazakhstan is number one

Exporter of potassium

All other Central Asian Nations

Have inferior potassium…

and ending with “your home in the grave”.

The guy is brave, I'll give him that. When you hear the old Rodeo Vet talking about what he thinks about muslims and gays - its a wonder he got out of there alive.

It does boast one of, if not THE most graphic masturbation scenes in mainstream film.

He did something really similar to this on his HBO series. Is it a new scene or did he take it from the programme?

I'm now gonna go see it after my biometrics appoinment tomorrow seeing as I'll already be off work.

I haven't seen his HBO series - but this film is partially unscripted. The majority of the funniest moments rely on the general public reacting to his character.

Much better than the Ali-G movie - which went completely the other way.

I found out that the Director is Larry Charles (Seinfeld). He was the lead writer for the show I worked on back in '99.

This sounds interesting, Steven! What show was this? What did you do?
