Wow, what a shocker. I broke down and called DOS on my lunch break. I got a very helpful person who seemed to actually know what she was doing. She told me she saw nothing abnormal about our case, that its not unusual for it take 6 months. Then she said she thought it should be just about finished and asked for my number. She said she was going to do an inquiry and call me back. Needless to say, my concentration is shot for the afternoon and my cell battery is about to run out juice. She said she'd leave the information on my voice mail. Sure hope she can get back to me today. Anyone else actually have someone help them at DOS? I'd like to hear.

Yep, I actually had a woman call me back once to let me know exactly what was going on. About 2 weeks after that, we had good news. Hoping the news is the same for you. (F)

Just out of curiosity, if someone has a license already in another country, do they still need to go through the test in this country or does it depend on what state you live in?

In Texas, yes. My husband had his international driver's license, but still had to take new written and road tests. Also, some cities offer the test in Arabic -- it's worth a call ahead to ask.

the new thing they do is they return the OLD passport with a hole punched in it - and send a new one with a new photo and everything.

It's not a new thing -- they did that when I renewed mine back in 2002.

Oh, I have the worst butterfiles in my stomach! Wadi just went in for his driving test...please send mojo!

I would be nervous too! Abdel is still looking for anybody but me to teach him. Now it looks like you have another week for Wadi to practice so you'll have nothing to worry about by the time he goes to take it. :innocent::help:(F)

I found my ring! Now I can go home tonight. I don't know how I missed seeing it the first time because it was laying on the yellow line between parking spots right next to my car.

OMG, someone is making popcorn - now I have to go hunt for some because once the office smells like popcorn it is impossible to not have some.

Unfortunately, they don't offer that option in my city. Mahmoud got the handbook and was like ???? trying to decipher some of their convoluted syntax. Plus he had to learn all these unfamiliar phrases like "exhaust emission system." I don't know who does the writing for the Department of Public Safety, but they are TERRIBLE -- even I had a hard time sometimes figuring out what they were trying to say. Geez... government work....

Do I have to send my actual marriage cert. for the passport, or can I make a photo copy? I am just afraid I wont get it back in time for our interview, and it's $60 more to have it expedited. But that might be the best thing to do. It'll cost me $127 to have it back in 2-4 weeks
