Switzerland has one of the highest levels of guns per household in the world, and also one of the lowest crime rates. Rather than a standing army in Switzerland, they rely on a militia. Following boot camp the soldiers return to their homes with their weapons. After age 30 they are free from the service, but they are allowed to either return their weapon or keep it in their home after being modified so that it is no longer automatic. I agree with the OP that it is because society has broken down.

tell me what percentage of the swiss population is immigrant, please...

Excluding pre-1890s or muzzleloading firearms, I do not have free and ready access to a handgun. To acquire one I must fill out a federal form, pay the government a fee to determine if I am eligible and wait 10 days.

people's kleptocratic republic of kalifornication. almost as Bad as new jersey.

i have an FFL type 1, also. being pennsylvanian is almost as good.

Here is where I see the middle ground compromise.

1. Forget an Assault Weapons Ban. Its a hollywood type view of firearms that is illogical.

2 Forget magazine capacity limits. It makes owners angry and does not effect criminals...ie it can be circumnavigated easily unless you want to ban springs and sheet metal.

3. Allow shall issue conceal permits. May issue has been shown to be discriminatory.

4. Flag any firearm purchase greater then 3 per month as a possible straw purchase for further investigation.

5. Require a waiting period.

6. Require all firearm transfers to go through FFLs

7. Require the registration of handguns only.

8. Create a fine for not reporting a stolen firearm within 30 days unless a plausible reason can be presented (out of town etc.)

9. Allow open carry of all firearms.

4-8 would go far to limit access to criminals.

1. Heller VS DC adn MacDonald VS Chicago obviate such

2. Same deal as 1

3.HR 822

4. egregious. i buy 20-30 firearms in a good month, adn know lots of people who do. half are handguns.

5. no need or validation with NICS

6. extension of federal rights over state rights. outside of federal purview. jim crow. ban by taxation

7. same as 6

8. BS. special class not under common law

9. ambivalent on this one, but credible

4-8 would impair commerce for law abiding and increase taxation, etc.

Ya. It must have been fully automatic weapons I was thinking of. Either way, any firearm should be registered, IMO.

if this is important to you stay in canada. or, might i suggest, move to PRC.

Luckily, America allows people with different opinions. Learn to tolerate them without telling them to GTFO. :)

Nobody's going to take away your precious gun(s) ... it'll all be alright.

But then he'd have to relinquish his "good ole boy" card.

waiting periods are not necessary or justifiable since passage of the NICS instant check system. "give a little on how a firearm can be used"? how about giving a little of your english thinking up. this is America, you know.

Sousuke's American. Also, there are ways to reply to multiple posts in one post. It prevents spamming a thread like you have here with successive posts, which just makes a person look a little crazy and ranty when it's more than two successive posts.

Might I suggest a lesson in manners?

I didn't realize I had to agree with every gun law in order to immigrate and be acceptable to those around me.

Wow.

Partially correct.... you need to fill the federal form answer some question about you and background and that's it, there is no fees to do the background search.

10 days wait time is also not applicable all the time most of the time now you can just get the hand gun same day itself.

All said I don't believe the access to gun leads to the Gun related crime. Coz most ppl who are using the gun for criminal activity would not pass thru the check nor would go and purchase the weapon thru legal channel.

 Don't worry about them. Like val said, there are some that just aren't worth it. So sit back, have a laugh, and discuss things with people who are actually interested in a discussion.

I was almost speechless.

 Thanks. I take things too personally, sometimes. I just need to learn to take it in stride I suppose.

Each state has different rules at the moment. I am referring to my state, which has both a waiting period and allows dealers to charge a small fee.

That could be true and would be surprising that state is charging for the federal background check done by FBI, unless your states has some local background check.

My state there is only federal check, no fees and if comes clear you can take gun with you right than.

it also makes it more difficult to address certain issues within a multi-quote for the less experienced. keep in mind that replies more than 5 min apart automatically generate a new post - lengthy or researched replies may well exceed that threshold. i'd say it's not a big deal, really.
