What website do you use for the cheapest airfares?

I found a fare for about 1/2 of what all the other sites have listed, but I'm weary of it...my "too good to be true" alarm is flashing. asaptickets.com - anyone ever heard of it or used it?

I arrived in the Philippines from Las Vegas on November 28th. I also contacted ASAP. They gave me the price and I then checked the site of the airline they gave me which was ANA. Then went to the Local Mango tours and showed them and they took another 20 off. The price ASAP gave me from the start was low but the airline itself was lower. Always check the airline direct after getting the info. I got RT from Las vegas for 840 Nov 27-Dec 18

I recently used Vayama and got a ticket from Boston to Cebu mostly on Korea Airlines for $1320 or so (and got a $50 rebate for using a Visa Credit card).

I thought that was reasonable as Korean Air is just wonderful, and the flights were well co-ordinated with no long layovers.

It's tricky though, as prices change both up and down over time. Recently a co-worker waffled about my time off and this held me back from purchasing the tickets for two weeks since we need to co-ordinate schedules, but it turned out good in the end because two weeks later the prices had actually dropped $50. I had not expected them to drop but they did. So booking out three months for the best rate is not always so.

Pay attention to layovers, the number of stops, the length of layovers and if you are coming from the Eastern US beware of forced transfers between JFK airport and La Guardia--that airport switch is horrid! A travel agent can cost you an extra $25-$40US but can really be a help sometime.

A few years ago the $25 I spent got me a meal ticket and a hotel overnight stay when one of my flights ran into technical trouble--had I not had an agent I would not have gotten the meal/room and might have been stuck at an airport for over 30 hours.

In my experience, I have always found buying direct from the airline to be cheaper by a few dollars. What I do is go to a service that compares different rates and find the airline that is offering the cheapest flight and then go to that airlines site. I've never found a cheaper price from a place that was not directly from the airline (though I'm not saying you can't find one). Since I live in the DC area, there are 3 main airports close to each other and if you are in the same situation, be sure to use a company that will compare different airports. It can be a big difference sometimes since one airline may not use one airport for certain flights. Also, make sure you check baggage fees and service fees which will often not show until the very last page where you enter your credit card info....

I ended up using Philippine airlines through expedia....could have saved a couple hundered dollars by catching a different flight to Manila then staying there overnight and then flying to Tugeguero the next morn - but not worth all that hassle.

Also, consider flying into an Asian hub like Seoul, Hong Kong or Shanghai and then booking a flight from there to PI on cebupacific or zest air, if they offer the routes - these airlines often do not show up in the web-based airfare search engines, but if you piece together the different itineraries you can save good money.

I use the web-based search engines to gather info on the airlines schedules & fares, but usually book directly with the airline. The last time I went I booked the outbound with Korean/Cebu Pacific and the Inbound with China Southern/Cebu Pacific by purchasing one-way fares on KE and CZ because the timing of the flights and the layovers was important to me. KVS is a great service for searching schedules, fare buckets available, etc.

Excellent info..

Yes, this is a good tip since I usually come in via Seoul and I have had good luck with Cebu Pacific.

As to the overall question, for me there is no one website. At times Expedia has been the cheapest, OneTravel is really good. But this time (coming to Cebu in April) I found that Vayama was the cheapest, so i used them.

I also agree with the comments about Korean Air. All things being equal I love to fly them - fantastic service compared to the American airlines.
