I just had a question regarding expedition requests. My husband and I have filed for I-130 in october 2012 and I-129F for k3 2 weeks after that (yes I know NVC may close it) but we want to be together as soon as possible and so we hired a lawyer and decided to file both petitions and see which one gets us reunited faster, we didn't care how much it would cost us, we just want to be reunited, anyhow, after receiving NOA1 for the I-130 petition we filed for I-129F and enclosed an expedition request; it has been 3 weeks since we received NOA1 for I-129F and still haven't heard anything about the expedition request we filed, should we call USCIS or wait until we eventually hear from them? I'm just afraid that our case is sitting on a shelf and they haven't even realized we put a request in for expedition. Also both of our petitions are being processed at NBC and we never got a transfer notification that it has been sent to a local field office, so I'm assuming is being processed at NBC?! I just want some sort of an update and I don't know if I should reach out to my lawyer or call USCIS.

i have read a lot of posts say their expedite requests are no longer receivibg the swift attention we saw several months ago. honestly unless your case is complicated, i dn't see the difference your lawyer will makes; its just as good as you calling them. so it wouldn't hurt for you to contact them and ask to speak with a senior rep.

By hiring a lawyer and filing the K3 docs, you slowed down your process.

What was the basis of the expedite request? It is possible that they have not looked at it yet; you may want to have your lawyer contact them by phone and fax the documents/ proof you used for expedite.

hiring lawyer won't help. They take time in sending papers versus you sending your paper asap when nvc requests. Only uscis stage takes time and once case is transfered to nvc it all depends on how fast you respond to their request of additional documents. Also CR-1 is a safe route to take if you're married becase K-3 now takes same amount of time

Submitting an I-129F for a K-3 won't slow down the process. Hiring a lawyer will, though.

Right now it won't make a difference to file K-3 or not. If the service centers slow down, K-3 can come in handy. It won't slow it down, though.

Thank you all for your replies, We did hire a lawyer because he is a well known friend and he's on top of our case and replies to uscis quickly, we just decided to hire him because we didn't want to deal with the paperwork ourselves. So I don't see how he would slow down our process, I guess I'm going to have our lawyer contact USCIS and iquire about our request. One last thing though, I can't seem to be able to register on the USCIS website with our receipt number, it says that the receipt number is invalid, I'm assuming it's because it won't let us check the status online and therefore won't allow to register the receipt number either, am I right?? I just hope we are as lucky as the people who have gotten their approvals in 2-3 months.
