When sending in the packet, it asks for proof of bonafide marriage. Someone mentioned on here that Friend afidavits are meaningless...so...okay....we're newyweds and live in separate countries! What do they expect?? We don't have the same address (YET), we don't have the same bank accounts (YET), we're not on the same insurance plans (YET), we have NOTHING together...YET!!!! So, what the heck do these bandits want to see? Please help me! This whole process is a freaking NIGHTMARE. I just want to be with the man I love and it seems impossible! Would screen shots of our LOVE LETTER emails suffice? How long back should I go? IS that sufficient? I'm clueless yet again.

THanks everyone!

First take a deep breath and relax. They are well aware that newly married couples living apart do no have a lot of co-mingling of finances.People are successful every day obtaining visas. Pictures, boarding passes to and from visits to see your husband with corresponding visa stamps in your passport. Receipts from any traveling or trips you took together, including the honeymoon(Hotel receipts), emails back and forth, are just a few types of evidence you can send. There are guides at the top of this page that list much more that can be sent. You need to remember that the USCIS and the consulate have a job to do, it is to weed out fraud. The burden of proof is upon you and your husband to prove that you have a bona fide marriage. Good luck

First, there is no such thing as a CR1 visa app. Second, the I-130 instruction ask for evidence, not "proof". They are not the same. Third, anything you read after the words "in addition to the required...." is NOT REQUIRED.

They want to see evidence of time spent together and evidence of how and how frequently you communicate with some photos of you together.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...
Understanding the big picture is priceless. Anonymous

We were in the same position as you and had none of the evidence listed on the I-130 instructions. Apart from the civil documents required, we just sent in three affidavits from friends - nothing else - and our petition was approved with no RFE for evidence. While we waited for the interview stage we worked on gathering other evidence although none of it was required by the London Embassy.

Calm down, you'll be fine. My wife and I sent 12 photos, a copy of my wife's passport page showing her trips to my country and a copy of one month of her phone bills showing multiple calls to and from my country. No RFEs. Portugal is not a high fraud country, so your evidence shouldn't need to be overwhelming either. they are used to newlyweds not having joint mortgages and life insurance policies.

IMO, photos are a great add-on to any evidence you may choose to submit. When using photos, always remember quality of quantity. 10 - 20 photos taken in different locations (distinguishable backgrounds), during different seasons, with different hair styles, some with family members etc. are great for showing that you have spent considerable amounts of time together over a period of time. If you don't have too many photos together, choose one or two from each time you've met. Just make sure that one can reasonably assume that they weren't all taken on the same day.

Don't worry we are in the same boat too. I've actually got some back up just in case we get a RFE for it. We do actually live together but I can't be on the lease or the bank accounts because I don't have a CPR (national identity) #. I loaded it with as much supplemental proof that I could find, although I did forget boarding passes.

3/2/18  E-filed N-400 under 5 year rule

3/26/18 Biometrics

7/2019-12/2019 (Yes, 16- 21 months) Estimated time to interview MSP office.

Thanks for the info everyone. So if we do collect these afidavits should they be notarized as well? or just simply signed by friends?

Hi Eav!

Yesterday I hvae submitted the additional documents to the Kolkata VFS ( Team Stanley) and your husband's friends affidavits should be notarized and from my side, I have submitted the parent's affidavits and one witness from court in a court paper and one from doctor, who knows us. So make sure it should be notarized. Submitted chat logs, emails, vonage phone bills, air tickets and photographs. On Nov 26th Interview, they issued me 221(g) for additional documents and yesterday I have submitted that. Lets see how it goes. Hopefully I will get my stamped passport with visa this time.

Good Luck to you as well!

We had ours notarized but only because we happen to know someone who could do it.
