Hi,

I am just wondering whether anyone here know about diplomatic pouch procedure... I am waiting for my Visa file to be transferred from China to Korea. Today I was told that my Visa file was sent yesterday through Diplomatic Pouch and it will take one month for Korean embassy to receive. Korean embassy added they knew this so they requested for Chinese embassy to send it by regular mail like DHL, but Chinese embassy still sent it by pouch.

I really have no idea on this diplomatic pouch thing, and I am just wondering whether anyone here know about this. It is really hard to believe that it will take one month for a document to arrive from China to Korea knowing it is only 2 hour flight ride normally. Even by a slow boat, it will not take a month.

Thank you.

Hi Theresa,

Sad to say, yes, it could take a month. We're waiting for the diplomatic pouch to transfer documents from the Ciudad Juarez consulate in Mexico to the London embassy in the UK, and we've been told it could take up to three (three!!!) months...

It seems bizarre that the diplomatic pouch can take so long to deliver mail - much, much longer than regular mail, let alone couriered mail. You'd think that the diplomatic pouch would be high-priority mail, but apparently not.

I may be incorrect but I seem to remember someone posting something similar to this about a year ago. I think they said the government does periodic diplomatic dispatches, including visas, in a weekly, byweekly or monthly basis depending on the activity level for each embassy. I know when the NVC processed the petition for my fiancee it took about two weeks to get to Manila but Manila is a very high-volumn embassy.

I how I haven't misled you. Good luck!

theresa,

The Diplomatic pouch delivery time really depends on the schedule for delivery to the given area. For example, some countries get a pouch delivery once a month, while others get several per week.

Also noteworthy to add, pouches do not always go directly from point to point. They have regional hubs where pouches are collected from all over, to be delivered at a later date.

They can range in size from a small envelope, to an entire plane load. Some require couriers, some don't.

theresa,

If you can call the US Embassy Seoul, I suggest you do so. Try calling each week for status, you may get lucky and the pouch will arrive earlier than scheduled. It happens all the time.

Thank you all for your answer. It is quite hard I can't even track this shippment. I guess I just need to find something to do for next two months and forget about this.
