quick question, im planning on applying for my fiance (after we get married) .. shes a canadian citizen and im a USC. the question is that do they give you a date for the medical or can you choose your own before the interview?

Seconldy, we are planning on travelling to the middle east for about 40 days, could the medical be scheduled in a different country if we know ahead of time or does it have to be done in her home country?

Medical for an immigrant visa for a Canadian MUST be done in Montreal. They do not give you a date for the medical but you cannot schedule a medical with a panel physician until your NVC is approved and you have an interview date set up.

I think we can go to panel physican in Toronto.

It is still far for me as we just submitted the I-130. Anyway, I am just exciting for this.

Yes, this is correct. There are panel physicians in Toronto.

You can do the medical after but it's a faster process for the visa if you do it before. From what I've seen the interview can be from a few weeks to a month or so after the nvc completion and approval. I think there is room for you to move it around a bit too if needed but check out the Canada forum for more info on that. :)

It is AFTER the NVC. Once the case is complete at the NVC they will schedule (or you can schedule) an interview with Montreal. If you are wanting to get the medical done in Toronto here is the website: http://www.panelphysicians.com/

I quote from that website and highlight for reference.

Who Needs a Medical ?

  • Immigration Medicals can only be conducted by Panel Physicians designated by the U.S. Government. Medical examinations are valid for one year from the date that they are performed.
  • If you have received an appointment letter from the U.S. Consulate in Montreal then you must now make an appointment for your medical.
  • All members of your family listed on your appointment letter require a medical. This includes infants and children. Children under 15 are not required to have blood tests or an x-ray.
  • If you are a fiancé and have a letter from the consulate but no appointment date and have been instructed to obtain a medical examination.
  • If your lawyer has instructed you to make an appointment for a medical.

Generally speaking it looks like most, if not all, of the panel physicians want an appointment letter (interview letter) with the consulate in Montreal to make your medical appointment.

This website should help too:

Saylin from VJ is an excellent reference for the Canadian process. Here is her blog: http://journeythroughimmigration.blogspot.ca/ It has a timeline right there too! :D

after NVC, before the interview.
