Applying for K-1 from China

I have a couple of different questions.

I have mailed the I-129F form from China to the following address (in addition to writing a $340 check from Bank of America):

For USPS Express Mail and courier deliveries:

USCIS

Attn: I-129F

2501 South State Highway 121 Business

Suite 400

Lewisville, TX 75067

The US embassy in Guangzhou, China said they weren't sure if the K-1 Visa could be processed by mail from outside the US. Can someone give me a clear answer that they will or will not process the application while I am living in China?

If not, should I get my mom at my permanent address in the States to mail it?

If what I did is fine, should I still fill out the change of address form to change my address to my US home address to receive mail quicker? Right now, they would mail things back to China if they needed to, if that's even possible.

Another question is: I sent my I-129F form from China on 11/26. I need to my fiance to receive the visa during or before August of 2012. If we can't receive it by then, we won't be able to get married in the States at all. For those who have went through this process, do you think it is a decent chance it could get finalized by that time or not worth the time or money?

Thanks in advance....

Welcome to the forum.

Informative thread.

Here is another link, the Department of State Nonimmigrant Visa for Fiance(e) (K-1) FAQs:

IMHO, a spousal CR-1 visa should also be considered as a viable option.

Happy trails on your visa journey.

Thank you all for your help.

Does anyone believe it's a decent chance for me to get the visa approved in under 9 months, or is it a bit risky?

MAYBE..... A big MAYBE!

There are far too many variables and potential delays to predict with any degree of certainty. Check the forum stats for length of time for visa approvals processed through the Guangzhou consulate.

Happy trails on your visa journey.

Very helpful, thanks.

I put my address as my China address because I am currently living there. I would like to change it to my parents address before they send me the receipt, so that I can receive information quicker. Could someone tell me the fastest means of changing my address over the internet? I looked around and couldn't find the place to do that.

I'm not sure why, but when I try to change my address on the USCIS Online Change of Address, it makes me need the receipt number, but I don't have that because I just sent out the I-129F a few days ago.

You aren't supposed to need a receipt number, but it won't let me get past step 1 unless I give a receipt number.

Yea...I just found that out recently as well. Before you could just use your A#.

According to the instructions, if you don't have a pending case (technically, you don't, since they have yet to acknowledge receipt of your petition, you don't have a Form I-797c Notice of Action-Receipt), it seems that you can either fill out a Form AR-11 and snail mail it to them, or wait until you get your Form I-797c, then do it online.

Good luck on your visa journey.

Ok, thanks for the info. I sent the I-129 in about 6 days ago. Would it be quicker to wait to receive the receipt in China, or for me to express the AR-11 change of address to them so they can sent the receipt to my parents address in the States? If anyone has some advice on that, it would be very helpful. I need to get this done as quickly as possible.
