Guess what? The numbers don't work for us either.

We're being forced to rely on USPS. Man, it feels ancient...

Hi,

you can phone USCIS, I did so, yes first the system asks you to dial you receit # but I could never do it, so I chose an option "I don't know my number" or I lost my munber, something like this and i got connected with an operator, then I asked the lady if she could check my case status, gave her my number and she checked it for me. My number also starts with MSC, but I can check the status with no problem on their site too. Are you sure you type in not just figures but MSC too?

Yes - the vast majority of I-130 cases at NBC can not check their case online or via the automated phone system. Supposedly the tier 1 phone support can't see them either.

So...I was just bored and tried to put the WAC code in front of my receipt number instead of the MSC code. I got a result :)Not sure that it is mine, but maybe. It says initial review. It also says that it was received on Nov. 13, but it was actually received on Nov. 14 and I got the email of NOA1 on Nov. 16.

Maybe it is mine, maybe not. Just passing the time :) Has anyone else tried this?

None of them work in front of mine, perhaps people who were originally assigned to a service center else than NBC can do that...

MSC numbers still don't work for me either. I put in my old WAC number and got someone else's case! (an I-129F approved in April 2011) Double checked it an yep, it was my old WAC number... strange. Is this bad? I included my old WAC number along with my A# on a bunch of my AOS paperwork...

Good to know that the cases do not continue with the same receipt number. I am sure that if they checked the number on your new forms they noticed the names were different and moved on. Good luck on a speedy AOS completion.

Nothing strange or bad. Each application that you submit to the USCIS generates a receipt number. Your WAC number is associated with your I-129F petition. From your timeline, your I-129F was approved in April 11 (where is that strange?). So yes, that is your case, and this number is associated to you, and to you only.

Including your WAC from your I-129F in your AOS paperwork is irrelevant. Your AOS application generated a new receipt number, which is the MSC one.

WAC=CSC, associated with your I-129F, approved, the case is now completely done and inactive.

MSC=Missouri Service Center=NBC, your pending AOS case.

Mine went straight to NBC, too. Who knows....only time will tell if it is actually my case :)

Actually with one of the other service center's codes before my case (LIN) - I get someone's work authorization paperwork with the same NOA1 date (Nov 13, 2012). I think that the numbers have something to do with the NOA1 date, so I wouldn't trust changing the letters about.

To be more precise: The receipt number is the 3 letters of the service center + the numbers, not just the numbers.

Example:

WACXXXXXXXXX or MSCXXXXXXX. If you change the 3 letters to some others, it will be for sure someone else's case.

If you put only XXXXXXXX, it doesn't mean anything. :)

Thanks for the info. For some reason I thought my petition was approved in 2010, I guess the process just feels a lot longer than it is  That was a little doofy of me hehe, it's right in my signature XD
