I've been trying to add our I-485 to USCIS web site so I can get e-mail/text alerts. However, it keeps telling me the receipt number isn't valid. The notice date on the I-797C is 10/31/12. When I called 800-375-5283 I couldn't even get to a real person because the prompt kept saying my receipt number is invalid. I know they might be slow in adding to their system, but a whole month? We had our biometrics on 11/16/12. Our receipt number begins with MSC. Thanks.

If you poke around the forums youll find a lot of recent filers who have cases starting with 'MSC' are unable to use the website or phone system to get updates. (supposedly theyre working on fixing it)

To get an update you need to speak to a person, to do so, follow to the prompts for- 'if you dont have a receipt number or cant locate it'

I cant see mine too .. and if you look at my timeline I have done the biometrics oct22 and I still cant see anything , I have called the USCIS a couple times to see how is it going... that is all we can do :( just sit and wait haha good luck

Indeed - when I was chasing up my status I had to pick this option several times to get through to a representative, even though I clearly knew my number; anything else simply put me back into the automated service.

It memory serves, it is the case number on the Bio letter that you must use, not NOA1.

The Biometrics letter has the same MSC number. I even tried using the number for the I-131 and I-765 which follw sequentially from the I-485 NOA1.

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I have had the same issue. It keeps saying my numbers (both forms I-485 and I-130) can't be found. I had my biometrics on 11/09 and I still can't check for any updates. I haven't received any emails or text messages. It is frustrating :/

Same here... None of our case numbers show up in the online system. I called USCIS a few weeks ago and the officer told me that they've been working on updating the system for over a year but clearly it hasn't helped much. She also added that more times than not, cases never make it into the online system and even when they do, it's not always accurate. If you want an update, your best bet it to call and be prepared to probably wait for quite a while. Just a tip- I found that calling late in the day helped minimize my wait time.

Yes, as mentioned above, sometimes the receipt numbers simply never appear online or in the automated phone system and there's very little the person can do about that. Sometimes they 'break', too, and a person may very well have their resident card and yet still appear to be in the initial review stage online.

Ha! We heard the same thing about "working on it" in May of last year. Yeah.... Right.....

It is a glitch that no one with any investment in the system has any incentive to correct so it never changes.

(BTW--now that the K-1 is a done deal, it is all online and pretty. It tells us when it was mailed. It DID go online, eventually. Ditto for the AP. Sigh.)

Don't expect more than the absolute bare minimum and you won't be disappointed--this seems to be the motto to follow with USCIS.

Hi,

you can phone USCIS, I did so, yes first the system asks you to dial you receit # but I could never do it, so I chose an option "I don't know my number" or I lost my munber, something like this and i got connected with an operator, then I asked the lady if she could check my case status, gave her my number and she checked it for me. My number also starts with MSC, but I can check the status with no problem on their site too. Are you sure you type in not just figures but MSC too?
