If you have a J-1 Visa sponsorship from one company, is it possible to get a 2nd job part time? My company is sponsoring my Visa to the US, but I would like to also work part time at a local restaurant for a little extra cash. Can a restaurant or coffee shop legally hire me under these circumstances?

No...the J1 visa has a program number on it, and that number registered with a particular organization...that is the only organization for whom you can work...working somewhere else is against our rules, and if you do, violates the trust given to you and suggests that your respect for our laws is not a high priority....what is wrong with the wage/salary your sponsor wishes to pay? If insufficient, don't take the job.

No, sorry, you can only work for the sponsoring company.

No. You can only work for the J-1 sponsor.

There is no circumstances that will allow you to work legally for anyone else.
