Does anyone know about this...should I have her get a sputum collection now to avoid a delay later on?

Not sure what you asking? Is there a concern that she has TB or had TB in the past, is that why you want to consider this? I know that if you have chest xrays that are clean, they do not require the test. If you are that worried, have her go to a hospital now and get chest xrays and then sputum if needed. ST Lukes will except chest xrays that are less than 6 months old from a qualifyed hospital. Now that does not mean she will not be re-xrayed during her medical.

As mentioned a chest x-ray is preformed first, however it's not a bad idea if your looking to cover your bases. If found to have TB, treatment can be started now and not at the time of her medical. This may shave off time, as you may know it is a 6 mo treatment.

If you're concerned, have her get a complete physical long before. I know I had my wife go through one while we were putting together the petition. But she kept getting a recurring cough, which was constantly worrying me. Her X-rays were clear, which made us both feel better. Turns out her cough was because she burned the grass from the yard after mowing it with her bolo knife all the time. The fumes from that were constantly bring back a cough. They quit burning and the cough never came back. It also gave us peace of mind when she needed to go to St Lukes for the medical. I wouldn't bring the X-Ray. They're going to take their own and if you get a fuzzy one, they may decide to do further testing bases on the X-ray you brought in and she would have been clear on theirs. I guess I viewed it as doubling the chance they would see something they worried about, so I told my wife not to bring her's.

I believe at her physical she'll have a chest xray. If it is abnormal she will then have a sputum test consisting of three days of gathered sputum, followed by a wait time to see if bacteria grow in the samples. If negative she'll be ok'd to travel, otherwise she'll have to undergo treatment for 6-12 months. Best of luck.

Ahh, ok it's just if she tests positive for TB? If so I'll just wait until her medical exam...she seems healthy.

It's only a matter of how the x-ray is interpreted. She will have one done as this is part of the medical examination requirements. If SLEC finds any suspicious spot on her lungs, then the investigation will pursue to determine whether or not she is positive for TB. This is where the delays happen, but there is nothing that can be done to alleviate this prospect. We did bring a recent clean x-ray for comparison, but comparing is the only use SLEC will have for any third party x-rays.
