US Entry, no stamp + Infopass

All,

I just got into the US with my expired GC and the extension letter. I had no issues entering, yet the immigration officer stamped the customs form instead of my passport. And, because I handed the form to customs, I do not have a stamp entering the US in my passport. Therefore, my passport contains only a stamp from my trip prior tomy last entry (I entered Nov 2012 and last stamp is March 2012)

Should I be worried? Whenever I need to travel next time, should I get an infopass and explain to them? Will my info be in the system as when I entered again?

Thank you in advance.

It appears you are close to getting your green card back, I would camp out in the US until the new card arrives considering you don't have the original or a copy. I guess you could request another copy for $.

In Arizona its hot hot hot.

Hi Bigdog,

Thank you for your fast reply. I do have the original GC, yet it is expired. My SC is Vermont, so I do not expect the new one arriving until May- June 2013. And I will need to leave the US prior to that. That is why I am concerned as I consider the non stamp upon arrival rare.

I don't think the stamp matters that much: they scanned your passport when you last entered so this will be in their system.

Are you saying that they took your extension letter that goes with the expired green card or just the customs form you fill out on the airplane? I am a US citizen, but one time when I entered from traveling abroad, they did not stamp my passport--just scanned it. I asked the officer if I was supposed to have it stamped, and he said that he would do it if I wanted him to, but it isn't necessary. I don't know if it makes any difference for green card holders, but since they scanned it, I think you should be fine. The only thing is if you want to apply for citizenship in the future, you need to tell how many days you have been outside the US after receiving your green card and the dates of travel. Having the stamp in your passport helps you keep track of those dates better, but a travel itinerary can do the same thing. If you have any doubts, you could always call the 1-800 number or make an Infopass. It wouldn't hurt anything. Good luck!

For those that may experience the same situation. The stamp upon entering doesnt matter. I went to my SC to clarify and to get my passport stamped. IO said there was no problem with no stamp nor would a stamp be necessary from the SC. Yet, I requested one, and was given one with extension to travel and work beyond my extension letter.

cool.

The extension letter should not have been taken by CBP. Idiota... (that worker, not you)
