that is the maximum time which they specified, but usually within 2 weeks is normal.

ok good to know that. what is the right way to check the passport status online. Somewhere in this forum, I came to know that calling DOS or Department of State will be good idea because they have the correct status update information page. Also got this link as well.

I mean to say, how do I track my passport online?

online tracking is for non-immigrant visa folks, for we people you can call help desk or send an email to passportstatus@ustraveldocs.com with your passport number in subject and body, you will get status back 2 seconds. i do this 100 times a day :bonk:

and i bother department of state two times a day at least 202-663-1225 option 1 then 0

and they still tell me the status as awaiting new passports, that means even we have submitted passport on 11/28 they have not even looked at it yet.

other thing to remember is do not use old email and send it again from your sent box, as i have found one bug in their email system, if i use email from my sent box and say reply all then you get incorrect status.

so always compose a new mail for passport status.

Ohh :( and one more thing..I have called today call center of VFS to check the status of my passport and they said its delivered to the consulate. But when I send the email to check the status of my passport, it said sometimes, its on transit and sometimes its picked up. Which is true?

BTW sorry I didn't know about that AP? I thought 221(G) and AP are both same. Thanks for the information. I will tell my hubby to call the DOS..

Nothing to worry. If the Consular Officer said so that your paper work is good and kept the passport so wait until you get the good news. Are you sure you are good as far as the paper work is concerned?

Yeah i m quite sure about the paper work, these are the words of counselor officer "ok all we are done here with your documents, i need nothing else from you. I am putting administrative process which is mandatory for the immigrant visas. This green paper (221(g) explanation) will let you understand everything. So we will let you know. It might take to three to six months". Humm but the embassy is full of uncertainties. I m hopping for good news. I want to go to my wife :-(

I am composing new mail every time. But after reading this message, I sent the old mail but I am getting " The current status of your passport is In Transit From Post" whereas the call center guy said it is delivered to the Mumbai Consulate on 12/4/2012

I called Department of State, as per their record they are still waiting for our passports, that means, my documents are there for one week and they have not even opened/reviewed it.:help::angry::(
