Hello,

My fiancé will be coming soon to the USA and my sister-in-law and I were hoping that she (my sister-in-law) and her daughter could come and be present in the wedding. We are thinking about me doing an invitation letter to the wedding. I am wondering how it works and if it will be successful because I really want them both to be present. What do you all think? Or do I have any other option? Thank you in advance for your help.

What mimilicious said. An invitation letter is not required, expected, nor particularly helpful. She applies for a tourist visa own her own merit. Her purpose for visiting the US is irrelevant to the application, what's relevant is that the consular officer believes that she will return to Haiti at the end of her stay.

You never know if a tourist visa will be issued until the beneficiary tries. We try for my step daughter every year and they finally told her to quit trying as she will never be issued a tourist visa. On the US Embassy Manila (our case), they specifically say that invitation letters are not helpful.

he following documents are not considered helpful:

•In general, affidavits of financial support will be of little value to an applicant (exception: a student visa application must have an affidavit of financial support). The affidavit of support is a requirement only for immigrant visas. The interviewing officer is less concerned about how the applicant will be supported during his/her stay in the United States than in whether s/he has reasons to return home.

Letters of invitation (except for business travel).

•Purchase of airline ticket. This should not be made until a visa has been issued and the applicant is in receipt of the passport with the visa in it.
