Worst case yes. However, if she did not get the tourist visa OR she did get it and returned as promised, then she really did no harm. I am not saying it is right, just that it did no harm because the claim to be married, itself, is not material to a tourist visa application EXCEPT as evidence that she will not immigrate illegally...she did not.

The relevance of this to the tourist visa is obviously that a married woman is at least theoretically less likely to be looking to get married to an american guy as a direct result of her 'tourist' visit. We all know how difficult it can be for young, single FSU women to get tourist visas here. Assuming Phil knows her well and is satisfied she is being entirely honest with him then they just need to hope that the CO is not having a bad day when the final decision gets made. It sounds like it could go either way!

I have had a chance to talk with my wife more since her interview....... It seems all was going fine until the guy doing the interview mention that her son wouldn't be able to go with her to the U.S.. My wife told him that he(her son) had his own visa application. He brought it up on the computer and went and got the packet. I think the guy might be new. He spoke in English and Ukrainian and didn't speak Russian. He had to get another women to ask her son questions in Russian because Dyma (the son) only speaks Russian. He wouldn't let my wife translate. He kept looking at the boys eyes to see if he was telling the truth. He asked about the boys father and when the last time he saw his father. Dyma answered all his questions but he was not happy with his answers. The CO asked my wife how we met and he kept going back to the person that introduce us. He wanted to know why I didn't marry the friend.

I don't know but I think the CO is worried about the father. My wife has a document stating she is a single mother and the father is not listed on the birth certificate.

Now we wait.

Under 14 children are not required to have an interview and because of that we did not bring Pasha (13 at that time) I never figured bringing extra people was a good thing. Sergey had an interview on his own (K-2 to follow) but they asked him nothing related to the visa, just about what sports he liked and nonsense like that. Alla (who went to the interview with Sergey, I did not) started babbling about stuff and the guy said "I don't need anything from you" and approved the visa.

I put this in the "things you can say when you DON'T sleep naked with Alla" folder.

I am not sure why they would be concerned about the father if he is not on the BC. I still think the married/single incongruity is A problem if not THE problem

Hoping for the best for you.

Yes the "friend". When I was there in 2007 on a mission trip with church I had just starting dating a women back home.. I was not looking but the"friend" did try. She is nice but I thing she may be a little bit of a scamer. I kept in touch and even helped her out with money from time to time. She works with the street children around Kherson. If I wasn't in a relationship who knows what might have happened. Your density will find you.:innocent:

Interesting.

I am not sure anyone would believe the answer.

I, on the other hand, arrived for a work assignment after being told ONLY "You are single? You will like Odessa." Not knowing exactly what that meant until 3 minutes after arriving. Actually only 30 seconds after arriving but it took 2.5 minutes to get me up off the floor! There were more HOT women in the tiny Odessa airport than in all of Chittenden County Vermont (itself not a hot-spot, admittedly) By the first evening I was pretty well convinced I would not be leaving Ukraine in 2 years without one of these. I did, but only because I knocked around for two years until I met Alla on my return trip! That was it for me! The best of all of them all in one!

Good luck, keep us informed
