I got married and submitted the docs for adjustment of status. I received a mail for an appointment for biometrics this december. I guess I'll bring my passport and the letter of appointment and hopefully don't have to pay anything anymore. What can I expect? What do they do there? lol. Thank you very much

Here is how mine went. The place looks like the safety check gates at the airport. My local uscis office is Reno. The interior is made of marble and its very big and auiet. Here was one gate, and one those X-ray rail things. They told me to tell my husbands friend who was giving me a ride that he can't come in because its only my name on the letter. I suggest you have your passport ( I brought my birth certificate with a translation too ) and letter on hand. I walked through the gate with no problem, they told me I can't take the water I had in my bag in, they can either throw it out or I could put it in the car.i said throw it out cause I didn't wanna go out and have to walk through the gate again. They also ask you for a list of electronic devices you have on you to make sure you know all your devices are off. Then they led me to a big room where a nice lady asked for my letter and gave me a form to fill. My office was very quiet with just one lady before me. She went in and got her finger printing done within five mi ties. After she came out the lady asked me to go in. There was this vending machine like device that takes finger prints AND pictures. She wet my fingers and took finger or ts just like in the embassy. After that asked me to sit and look into the camera, took a picture too. After that I was done, she handed me my letter back with a red stamp on it, and asked me to fill a comment card and then I left. The guards were very friendly and n my way out asked me questions about how my experiences have been so far since I'm iranian and our area has relatively low count of immigrants. On and all, I got too worried. It was very easy.

Have a shower before you go. Dress nicely. If you're a man then bring a comb. If you're a woman then bring your makeup. Remember to smile. You're going to be looking at that picture for the next two years, so try to look your best.

True! At least they show you the image and you can get it re-done if it's terrible (I was surprised I was allowed to smile at all, to be honest). Same with the signature - I always write my whole name out in fairly normal handwriting and most electronic signature pads are designed for quick squiggles, not slow, precise writing so they always bug out and I have to re-do about three times. Even now the specific attempt looks ####### on the card.

Still, the image of me is blurry anyway and the fingerprint sample in the lower right corner seems to be somewhat squished and missing some detail (?) so I guess aim low.

I just had my biometrics yesterday. The person assisting in taking my prints said that the machine can't read my left ring finger and I might be asked to do it again. Oh my gosh. Was it my fault? Does it mean that there will be another delay in the processing of my I-485 and I-765? Funny thing is, it is my right thumb that is quite dry due to the cold weather and not my left ring finger. The waiting is really killing me.

Nothing much happens. You get in with your photo ID and original biometric notice (absolute must, don't forget this). Wait till they call you for fingerprint and picture. Also, make sure before leaving that they stamp your notice that you were received on that day.
