It's been a month and a half now since we received NOA1 and, since we cannot check the status online (which seems unreliable anyway), I'd like to start calling USCIS, just to make sure that everything is on track and that we're not missing anything (like a RFE lost in mail for example).

In the meantime, I don't want to give them the impression that I'm being too "pushy" or cause any delay.

So I guess I'm just trying to understand what everybody else on VJ is doing...?

Thank you

It is far too early to be calling USCIS after NOA1. You should not call unless you have gone beyond the normal processing time for the service center involved. You will get no answers at all. In this process patience is a virtue. As hard as it may be you need to try to be patient, calling them now will get you no where, more than likely your case is still sitting in a warehouse and no one has even looked at it yet...

I suggest if approvals continue to go in the fashion that they are for the NBC, and if you haven't heard anything by day 90, then you give a call.

But it all depends on if things continue in the way they are.

We used the waiting time to gain some insight, knowledge and tips about the process and the timeframes involved, on VJ. This helped to reduce our anxieties about the process in general but we also had to resign ourselves to waiting and waiting in order to save our sanity. Good luck with your journey (F) (F)

I voted Never, because they are unlikely to have even looked at your case at this stage. Wait 4 months, call for an update once, then monthly until you are past normal processing times.

i have an MSC #, and I called once a week. The CSR can't see anything on their computer screen, an ISO can.

I'm not calling anymore, till the 11th of December.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

What exactly does an ISO see?

Just that your case is sitting there somewhere and not touched yet?

ISO - http://www.dhs.gov/files/publications/gc_1305658440339.shtm

For me, the CSR couldn't pull up my casefile info by receipt #, names and dob..

The ISO could.

So far, the ISOs have told me about the receipt dates, and the service referral action, and physical casefile location.

I have no idea where calling gets you. I called today because so many people are saying their cases where sent to a local office and mine was not, so i was curious to see if it would or not. I was told that NBC was just preparing the cases. Once CSC was caught up, my case would be transfered back to CSC for processing. I asked what date CSC is currently working on. I was told June 16th.

She said only October and November filers are going to local offices.

I just check on line.

Do you have a MSC#? The vast vast majority of the MSC# do not work online.

Interesting...

I want to call later today and find out, but I think at about 2 weeks after NOA1 they aren't going to have any real information. I'll probably call about a month after NOA1 if it still hasn't arrived and to check the status. Then again at about 2 months and probably once a week after that if the online system isn't working. I'd like to know if we have a RFE especially with how slow the mail seems to be. I have a guess that we might get one for bonafide marriage, but we'll see.
