Yes, this trip is going to be on a visitor visa, there is no fiance visa involved at this stage.

I have good money to cover myself, for the trip. I'm getting a letter from my employer to say I have a job. I stay at my mothers and pay cheap rent.

Thank you very much for the advice so far, very useful :D

Got ya Jay jay! Very sound advice, thank you! :-)

I got an agency job that is very flexible, so I can honestly go on that line. I got enough money to keep me there. From what I know, and the advice given on this page, it seems like I can do this ok!

Thank you so much to everyone for their advice! So great that people can help each other out this way! Thank you! :-)

Second. "Girlfriend" is not a legal definition of anything. Saying you're visiting "a friend" isn't lying. Being asked "Are you visiting your girlfriend?" and replying "No." is lying. There's a fine line between not volunteering information and lying. Not bringing it to the attention of the officer that you have a girlfriend in the US is fine. Denying that you have a gf in the US is not fine..

I totally agree with this. We visited back and forth many times and never used the word girlfriend or boyfriend. I think the term is for teenagers so didn't feel obligated to use it with CBP. They never asked if there was a romantic relationship with our friend. Many are asked. You have no intention of staying illegally so convince them if you are questioned. It's a judgement call by the officer so don't appear panicked or guilty and all should go well.

Hey!

Before we did the K1-process, I visited many times; sometimes for almost 90-days at a time.

Bring evidence of your "ties" to England. Employment contract, lease, stuff like that. I think that could be useful just in case the officer at the POE gets suspicious.

Don't lie, just answer truthfully. You'll be fine.

Good luck!

Vera

My friend was always booking tickets for a short trip, and later changed the returning date. He also booked a hotel room for a day or two so that he can present the hotel as the place of stay in the US instead of gf's house. Don't over-think, but do be careful not to give away too much info. You'll be just fine:)

Good advice! I visited my fiancee 3 times before immigrating to the US, never had any problems with Customs. As long as you are honest and show documentation that you have ties back in your home and you do not overstay you should be okay but be aware it really depends on the customs officer on the day. In all my travels the customs guys never asked for the documentation but it's good to have it for backup. Good luck and have a great time.

Yeah.. I agree with the posts. And don't volunteer a 5 minute speech when they're asking a basic yes/no question, or unload 50 pieces of paper on their counter if you have only been asked "business or pleasure". Be prepared to have documents supporting your story(return ticket, lease, job/contract, funds), in case the officer ask, and in case he/she wants to see.

Your friends are right however keep Jay Jay's advise in mind rather than your friends'.

Have a great vacation!

This is all really good advice. I wish I had known about this site when I was visiting my husband in England for the first time (when we were still dating). Heathrow grilled me like a cheese sandwich for an hour before letting me in. Enjoy your drip to the States, devilriderman. x
