hi

just want to ask if the "police clearance" needed for visa requirements is the nbi clearance or just the normal police clearance or both? and I read in one of the posts that there's this letter of explanation needed together with nbi clearance? I was planning to get one and its good that I read that particular topic first. Thanks and God bless :)

Unless you have lived in another country for 6+ months you only need to obtain an NBI clearance. If you have lived in another country for over 6+ months you have to get a police clearance for that country as well.

If the NBI clearance says "No Criminal Record" or "No Pending Case" then an explanation from the NBI is required.

Yes, since it has been almost a year, get a new copy. Make sure it's for Travel Abroad purposes. With a "No record on file" you do not need a NBI explanation.

4. NBI CLEARANCE: Applicants aged 16 years and older must have a valid Record Clearance for Travel Abroad Purposes from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI). Clearances should be in the applicant’s current name, birth certificate name, maiden name, married name, and any aliases or nicknames ever used, including different spellings of all names ever used. An official letter of explanation from the NBI is required for any notation of “No criminal record”, or "No pending case”. For immigration purposes, an NBI clearance is considered valid only for one year from the date it is issued. You may contact NBI at (632) 523-82-31 to 38. The NBI website is http://www.nbi.gov.ph.

Good luck!

Sorry, I thought that you asked if you should get a new NBI clearance. Goes to show towards the end of the day I'm getting tired! That's why I said "Yes, since it's almost been a year get a new copy". :bonk:

If I were you, also depending on how far out your interview is, I would get a new clearance. Especially if it's been almost a year. Less chance of a surprise from the CO asking for a more recent copy.

Sorry for the confusion on your post.

Good lucky!

Get a new NBI clearance (green for travel abroad) before your embassy interview.

Police clearance is only for persons who lived and/or worked in a foreign country for 6 months or more.

If you only resided within the Philippines, you don't need the PC, the NBI clearance would suffice.

NBI Clearance. For immigration purposes, an NBI clearance is valid for one (1) year from the date it was issued. NBI clearance with "No Derogatory Record" or ‘No Record on File” doesn't need a certification. An official letter of explanation is required for any notation of “No criminal record”, or "No pending case”. To apply for a new one, go to the nearest NBI office or to order online http://nbi.gov.ph/online_application.html

If you've lived in another country for more than 6 months, check the Country Reciprocity Schedule site of the Dept of State if you're required to submit one while you're out of that country.

Good luck!

hi bumbero, apple21 and tintin and mike!

thank you for all your informative and fast response! :)

yes I will get a new one coz mine will expire by december! Should I just bring my previous one (but under my maiden name) and since I'm married now, do you guys think that it will have the "aka" on it with my maiden name? And should I put "us visa" for its purpose? thank you so much guys! :)

For purpose put "For US Visa Application".

You don't need AKA if you're going to get a new one using your married name. They will just add your husband's surname to your full maiden name. Just bring your old NBI, a photocopy of your NSO marriage certificate and a valid ID.

You don't need to get a written explanation.
