I filed IR-1 for my wife and I am currently at the NVC stage. I applied a Tax ID number (ITN) from the IRS and added her to my tax return (as joint our both names are shown on the tax return). Do I have to use I864 or I864A. By the way, I used form I864 and mailed it to NVC on November 13 and so far, I did not hear from NVC. FYI, my wife is in her country and waiting the completion of our case at NVC.

I-864a is for sponsors combining income to qualify. If you qualify on your own, file only the I-864. If you need your wife's income to qualify, that will only work if her income will continue from the same source after immigrating to the USA.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...
