I'm a little confused & worried about doing the wrong thing..

I just received my packet from MTL... It stays

Step 1 - Immediately return the DS230 Part 1

Step 2 - Obtain the list of documents listed below, which include;

Passport

Birth Certificate

Marriage Certificate

Evidence of Support, I134 (notarized)

Medical Examination

It says to check off each item once you have received them and then and sign the checklist. Then return only the signed checklist back to them.

I have to get my husband to get the Evidence of Support & I have to make an appoint for the medical. Am I supposed to just return the signed checklist & then bring all the documents with me to the interview? Or am I supposed to get all the documents FIRST, then sign and return the checklist WITH all the documents. Maybe I'm just reading it wrong... Although I have read it about 5 times now... I think I'm just freaking myself out unnecessarily

I think I just found my answer.... But I just want some validation....

4.3.1)...What does the fiance(e) do with all these papers?

A..The process is not exactly the same for all countries, but works generally like this:

  • When you have gathered all the required items from the OF-169 (or UK/85) checklist, you will sign it and send the checklist to the Consulate. Do NOT send any of the listed items.....keep them for the interview. Hang on to the DS-156 and 156K application forms. Fill them out but do NOT sign them until the interview itself, as the signatures must be witnessed by the Consular official.

Take a breath

Do the Ds-230 and checklist and send em back

The items on the checklist go to the interview with you.

The DS-156 will go to the interview after you fill it out on line of course lol

We didnt have all the items on the checklist but we checked em off anyway ( passport, I-134, or medical) since we're sure to have them in time.

and one more thing .....YAAAAY you got it.

Sigh of relief :hehe:

I seem to have done this with each step of the journey... I think I have it all under control... I think I know what to do... then bam... I get something in the mail and start doubting everything I THOUGHT I knew/understood....

Thank you very much for the validation....

Oh ya ... I've been doing the happy dance since I got home !!!!:dance::dance::dance:

Oh I hear ya!!!

I was in Barrie last week/weekend visiting my mother in law. My husband has been working at Base Borden for the past couple of months so his mail was being forwarded to his moms. OF COURSE it was last day to be receiving mail at her address and we were concerned the switching back and forth would affect the timeframe for getting the packet. We walked in from shopping on Friday and "mom" was sitting there grinning like a Cheshire cat....finally after about 10 minutes she says" you have mail and I thought you'd never get around to asking me " Well there it was ...........i thought it should have had a glow as if it were gold or something. Actually pretty cheap-o wasn't it? Certainly is nice to have it and to feel like we're moving forward. Now we get to second guess as to whether these next forms are filled out properly *sigh*
