USCIS online "Change-of-Address" AR-11 form

Hello from 'Non-US-Citizen' (NUC) , just married a week ago today.

I'm doing most of the paperwork, as my US husband is away for work on a ship. (1 month on 1 month off)

Now that we're married, and he's back at work, it's time to start the AOS process.

Or so I thought, until I discovered I need to do a 'Change Of Address' (AR-11) . I had no idea, no clue about this, and it should have been done within 10 DAYS of moving here!

Since the AOS packet hasn't gone out, I, the non-us-citizen (NUC) will need to do the 'Change of Address'/ AR-11 Form. Correct?

I go to the USCIS website, read everything over, and start making my changes online. Well, I tried. Drop down menus don't allow you to input your information, unless your previous address was in the US.

So I attempted to call USCIS. No live person. Is it a holiday? I know Thanksgiving was Nov. 22, and today is my birthday (another year sexier thank you), but at least the USCIS could put a message on their machines to say, NO live person will take your call today. Call back Monday.

Alright... That was my vent. It's my birthday, I'm without my husband for month, but thankful to be where I am.

Peace out.

"Most non-U.S. citizens must report a change of address within 10 days of moving within the United States or its territories"

Within the US - not TO the US.

You only need to file the AR-11 if you move during or after filing AOS. You will see a section on the form where you swear to keep your address up to date etc.

Just to add one little detail. Your husband as the USC sponsor must also file a change of address, if he moves, using the I-865 form until you satisfy the requirements of the I-864 Affadavit of Support. No need to inform the USCIS of any change of address until after the NOA1 of the AOS is received.

Happy (late) birthday,

Dave

If you entered on a K1 you're good. Your address is already current (well your husband's address is)

Just fill out the AOS/I485/I864 package with you/your husband's current US address (probably have to wait to file as he has to sign the I864 unfortunately if he didnt leave you a signed copy)

If you move after that then both of you will have to file the change of address - you can do it online and he has to mail his in

Happy birthday and best of luck!

On the bright side, you're probably doing a more thorough job than any lawyer could do for you collecting AOS documents. : )

No AR-11 needed before you file AOS.

After you submit AOS, both you and your husband(and if you have a joint sponsor) are all required to submit the AR-11 if you move.

Happy b-day and good luck on AOS. Vj is open 24/7.. Unlike USCIS customer service.

K1 process, October 2010 > POE, July 2011

I-129F approved in 180 days from NOA1 date. (195 days from filing to NOA2 in hand)

Interview took 224 days from I-129F NOA1 date. (241 days from filing petition until visa in hand)

From filing I-129F petition until POE: 285 days

Click timeline or "about me" for all details.

AOS process, December 2011 > July 2012

EAD/AP Approval took 51 days from NOA1 date to email update. (77 days from filing until EAD/AP in hand)

AOS Approval took 206 days from NOA1 date to email update. (231 days from filing until greencard in hand)

From filing I-129F petition until greencard in hand: 655 days

Guess I should be a little more clear, when I post. (My brain has been a little slow after moving, married & new Maui life)

Any way....

Regarding the "Change-Of-Address" statement.

My husband (USC) and I (NUC) BOTH live at a NEW ADDRESS.

Different US address than what we've submitted previous paperwork.

The date of my POE, I was using the new address. SSN application has this new address.

Having said all that, I think I do need to do the AR-11 form.

*My husband (USC) can still get his mail from the old address, so that's not an issue*

Have not flied AOS, therefore no pending case.

So, that is what 's going on.

I spoke to the USCIS twice, and they said YES. Do the AR-11 Form.

No pending case (have not filed AOS) must do the AR-11.

We all know how it feels, going through this process, when you're uncertain about something, then you sure, then not sure...

Sometimes, you just need a second or third opinion. And with my husband away a month at a time, I really have no one to talk to about these issues... he trusts that I know what I'm doing... THANK YOU VJ peeps for the support.

Okay... feedback... ?

Ps- glad VJ's is open 24 hours 7 days a week

As I stated before, and others have, there is NO NEED to update your address until after you have filed AOS. There is a section on that form about it. Simply file AOS with the new address. No problem.

If it makes you feel better to file, go ahead. It won't hurt anything.
