Back injury, Just married, K1 visa,No work comp benifits,No money,can i file for assistance and not have it be a burden??

Hello Friends that have always helped us get where we are today!Ester and I are together(she has been here 6 months now)Well I had a back injury at work 3 months ago and i filed for workmans comp and my employer is fighting it.Figures huh?Also appiled for unemployment because i was released to very light duty work and because of the work comp thing and my self getting an attorney for this mess they are fighting that also(I worked my ### off for these people)To make a long mess short I am broke!!Ester has her green card now and i dont want to mess up things later on for the resident status stuff(2 years i think)When she came here you all know about the "Becoming a Burden stuff"Question IS:Can i ask for any assistance like Energy assistance,Food stamps etc.. Just to get us by for now untill this work comp thing is done??I DO NOT WANT TO DO THIS IF IT WILL CAUSE ANY PROBLEM WITH ANYTHING DOWN THE ROAD!

I'm pretty sure that it is only your wife that cannot accept 'means tested benefits'.

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong or add anything else you may need to be concerned about.

The USC is still entitled to claim any benefits they are entitled too... it is only the immigrant that is not ment to claim means tested benefits.....

Just that when you fill out the application don't put your wife in there, Go solo.

Thanks For those who answered!!Its all taken care of now and it wont affect anything!Hopefully only for a couple months untill work comp gets their head out of their blank.

also call the united way in your county...they are an EXCELLENT resource for working people who get screwed and need a little help
