Can someone tell me what is the first step for AOS for my husband? Does he have to get his SS# and ID first?

He doesn't need a SSN or state ID to apply for AOS. Once he has the marriage certificate he can apply (along with all the other forms and documentation required - see guide http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1k3aos)

Also see this thread (note the filing fee has changed)

However it would be in his best interest if he went to the social security office and applied for his social security card. He can do this until 2 weeks prior to the expiration date on his I-94. If he doesn't get it done in time he will have to wait until he receives his EAD or green card.

He doesn't need the number for his AOS application, so don't wait for the card before you apply, but it will be very useful to have for other things.

You have to read the guide "How to File for Adjustment of Status for K1 and K3 Visa Holders". It explains everything very clearly.

The forms of the points 4 and 5 are optionals but I would advise you to submit those forms too as that allows your husband to receive his EAD and AP while the GC is still in process.

The EAD is the Employment Authorization Document and the AP is Advance Parole. Those 2 documents are waived if submitted along with the form I-485.
