sorry to hear that you had contact with A**holes at the SSA. When my wallet was stolen last year, I had to replace mine and my son's soc. sec. cards. When I went into the local office, told the lady my wallet was stolen... I DID have current ID, and I also had COPIES of our SS cards... the lady tried to give me some attitude. I quickly told her that I was a tax-paying citizen... and that helped to pay her salary... and she could either talk to me reasonably... and treat me with respect... or we could just take this snotty attitude up a higher level... and to consider that I sat on the "board of directors" so to speak... and that as a government employee... she worked for me... (that lady was definitely working on me opening that can of South Georgia Whoop A**)

After she saw that I wasn't leaving... and would not tolerate her snottiness... she relented and took the needed information... and I received our new SS cards within a week.

it is a crying shame that people have forgotten what customer service is all about... and that we are all due a certain and fair amount of respect.

Anyways, hope that things will definitely go better for ya!

Blessings,

Lynne

(and it's interesting to people-watch too).

I did that too on the two times I had to go to the local SS office here. Both times I noticed ALL the people waiting looked really grumpy. And it's not just because they were waiting. Every time someone walked in, I'd look up and notice it's another unhappy face. The inspirational posters the office has on its walls crack me up, though.

Or maybe they don't know and/or don't care what customer service is.

That could be very true. The thing is, because its a government agency they have got the members of the public by the balls, meaning they dont have to be polite or nice. They know we need to deal with them and cant take our custom elsewhere so they can treat us any way they like! Its the same with the DMV, I havent had to deal with them yet but my husband says its not a nice experience!

The DMV nearest us is 10 mins away, but hubby says the place is awful and depressing. So he took me to the one in Greenwood, which is about 20 mins away. It's so clean and bright. And very big. The staff are also polite and nice. The central office still hasn't completed processing my permit and state ID (which I applied for on Jan 17). When we went down yesterday evening to renew my temp authorization permit, the lady (who was the same one who gave me my written test in Jan) apologized over and over again that I still hadn't gotten my ID and permit in the mail yet. I was a little taken aback and told her it's not her fault. She also reminded me to make sure I call them if I still don't get my stuff at the end of the 60 days.

Sometimes it's like a game of dice when we visit government agencies.

ladybutterfly, I really hope you have a more pleasant experience at your next visit. (L)

Ephesia, my learners permit took about 60 days to come through from Indy (and that involved my local DMV hassling them). I then took my driving test asap and had to go through the whole temporary thing yet again. After another 60 days or so I got my proper driving licence. Good luck!

Hey Annie,

Yeah, the Greenwood DMV lady did warn me about the 60-day wait. I plan to give them a call on Mar 17 if my permit and state ID don't arrive in the mail by then. For the time being, I am not in urgent need to get it since I have the temp document valid for a fresh 60 days (they had given me a 30-day one by mistake when I passed the written test in Jan). And at the rate driving lessons with the hubby are going, we don't anticipate me taking the driving test till ... June.
