Extending Tourist Visa's expiration before entering US

I know this is dumb, but my mom insists that I go ask. She wants to come to US (again), but the visa she applied to last year will be expiring on March 2013, and she wants to come in April 2013. Is it possible to extend the visa before she uses it? I KNOW she has to apply for a new one, but maybe I am wrong.

Let me know if you know such a thing as extension of visa before coming into US.

If she wants to come in April next year on tourist visa, she needs to make sure her visa is in valid condition. Since as you mentioned, her visa will be expired before the intending trip, therefore, she needs to renew her current visa in regulated time before the expiration of her visa. For relevant information, she needs to consult from consulate stationed in her household register asap.

Would that mean applying for a new one then? She wants me to ask when I am here in the US. and she's in Philippines.. >.<

The visa expiration date (validity ) has nothing to do with the length of time someone may remain in the US...(a person could be admitted one day before their visa expired, yet still be admitted for six months)...so, if your mother's visa is due to expire in March '13, and she wishes to travel in April '13, she should apply for a renewal soon.

The visa expiration date (validity ) has nothing to do with the length of time someone may remain in the US...(a person could be admitted one day before their visa expired, yet still be admitted for six months)...so, if your mother's visa is due to expire in March '13, and she wishes to travel in April '13, she should apply for a renewal soon.

One cannot extend the validity of a visa, one can only extend the amount of admission time, thus, sounds like she needs to renew her visa.

Her visa is still valid, so a reapplication on her part would be considered a 'renewal' because she has already (as far as we know) qualified to hold said visa, and used it appropriately. Her interview might last all of 4 seconds!

You said your mom is in Manila, I'm assuming she's a Filipino citizen. I think she's eligible for the Visa Reissuance Program (VRP). My auntie just "renewed" her tourist visa via VRP. It was pretty quick, she was just asked 2 questions.

I believe that in many cases if you have been issued a tourist visa within the past year they may issue another one without an interview. My wife was issued a second without an interview.

I wouldn't call it a renewal because they issue a new visa all together with a different visa number.

Hi Angeltots,

I assumed that your Mom has already used her [Non-Immigrant] US visa. If this is the case, then you'd should follow the advice of CJ8611 (Posted 24 November 2012 - 09:31 PM); she is correct.
