only by the term 'atheist'. probably a damning tie in your book but i don't personally believe mother teresa was a villain or evil.

Are you a true atheist, not believing in a creator, an afterlife, or a higher level of collective conscientiousness, or are you generally certain, but still open to the possibility of any of these? Are you an antitheist, opposed to even the concept of any of the listed possibilities?

creator could be any number of things. i've never died so, don't know about an afterlife. higher level of collective HUMAN consciousness. i generally don't oppose concepts. they're harmless.

Atheist group at Dartmouth plans anti Mother Teresa event

3759 1448Google +33 292 By Oliver Darcy, on Nov 16, 2012

An atheist group at Dartmouth College is planning an event aimed at skewering the reputation of the late Mother Teresa.

The Atheists Humanists Agnostics (AHA) club sent out a campus-wide e-mail announcing the program on Tuesday and promising a "full-out romp against why one of the most beloved people of the century, Mother Teresa, is as Hitchens put it… 'a lying, thieving Albanian dwarf.'"

Mother Teresa is widely known for her life's work of aiding the poor and comforting the sick.

The e-mail says the group plans to screen an anti-Mother Teresa film, discuss Hitchens' book, Missionary Position: Mother Teresa in Theory and Practice, and question how the public has been "conned into thinking this woman [Teresa] was good."

The e-mail states Teresa, who is on her way to sainthood in the Catholic church, "was not a friend of the poor," but "was a friend of poverty."

The email links to a now infamous article by the late Christopher Hitchens which attempts to debunk much of the lore that surrounds Teresa.

The event has ignited controversy on the Ivy League campus, with students telling Campus Reform they were upset AHA was hosting such an event.

"It's easy for a group of privileged Ivy League students who have never experienced poverty to meet in a 'super secret room' and think themselves as intellectuals by bashing Mother Teresa," Melanie Wilcox, Executive Editor of the conservative Dartmouth Review, told Campus Reform.

"I'd like to know what they have done, if anything, to help the needy," she added.

AHA President Adam Hann, however, defended the event, but admitted he had intentionally used "provocative" language in the e-mail to excite interest among students.

"What I like to do is, when there are areas that people just get vitriol or angry even for bringing it up, I like to go and have that discussion," said Hann.

Hann added that he estimates about five to ten people will participate in the event slated for this Saturday.

Mother Teresa is widely known for founding the Missionaries of Charities, a charity tasked with aiding the poor. She was beatified in 2003 by Pope John Paul II, a step toward possible sainthood.

The Catholic church has supported thousands of hospitals around the world. How many have Atheists started and kept running?

Apparently the President should have an opinion on everything, and voice it. Even when it has nothing to do with politics.

You mean like when he jumps all over the Cops in Cambridge or inserts himself in the Trayvon M case, because he is black. ?

You're rewriting history. He didn't insert himself in the Trayvon Martin case. It was making national headlines at the time he was asked about it, gave one response, and never spoke of it again.

"If I had a son, he'd look like Trayvon," Obama said, underscoring how the issue affected him on a personal, and not just a political or legal, level. "I think [Trayvon's parents] are right to expect that all of us as Americans are going to take this with the seriousness it deserves, and we are going to get to the bottom of exactly what happened."

The statement by Obama came after he introduced Dartmouth President Jim Kim to be the next head of the World Bank during an appearance in the Rose Garden. He took only one question before heading back into the West Wing -- signaling that both he and his press handlers were feeling pressure, coming from black activists and others, to make a public comment on the Martin case.

Obama was careful not to get too far ahead of events. He said he was wary of "impairing" an ongoing legal process but praised the fact that federal, state and local law enforcement are now working together on Martin's death.

So OBama using the federal legal arm of the whitehouse to wade into a state matter = not getting involved?

Huh?

Let's get this straight... the Leader of the university, found it more necessary to write a letter of condemnation on an invited guest.... than the mob which moved to silence speech..... at the very place speech should be the most free.

o------K.

The leader of the university exercised his right of free speech. You'd rather he didn't?

Apparently, according to some, they are fully in support of free speech as long as what's being said is something they personally agree with.
