what was just about politics? obama defending rice? yes that would be the realm of politics.

college kids having a not so popular opinion about mother teresa? nothing to do with politics. i'd say that would fall under the realm of anti-Catholicism.

I believe you left something out.

no, catholicism. not many folk outside of catholicism give two sh*ts about some stupid college event. the article isn't about the atheist kids crying that obama isn't making a speech about their efforts...

It is not a Catholic event. It is an anti-religious event, and in particular, it is aimed at degrading the Catholic religion. It does show more than a lack of tolerance for a particular religion, it a deliberate attack against an identifiable group of people. It is also a personal attack against a religious figure, who happens to be a woman, and a citizen of India. It is hate speech, pure and simple.

Why would you think Obama would support such vile hatred?

jeez. i never said it was a catholic event. you're not grasping my point.

hate speech? i don't see it. do you know why they have the opinion of mother teresa that they do? honestly, it's only an opinion that an atheist or agnostic could hold. their position makes absolute sense to me, i just think it's unnecessary and won't accomplish anything. what makes you think that obama has to take a side on such a miniscule if not completely useless college event?

by saying that i understand why these kids hold the opinions they do - i am in no way tarnishing her reputation and i wasn't trying to. they take issue with the idea that suffering is a gift from god. most people who don't believe in god take issue with that line of thinking.

i only commented on this thread because you and the op seem to think that the president should get involved. which is laughable.

So you hold onto a misquote, taken out of context, and because they are not believers, it is okay for you and them to ridicule a good woman.

The hi-jacking of institutions has =been wildly successful by the left... ya got'ta hand it to em.

They don't build anything but like termites, they know how to make it their own.

Dartmouth College (commonly referred to as Dartmouth ( /ˈdɑrtməθ/ dart-məth) is a private Ivy League research university located in Hanover, New Hampshire, United States. The institution consists of a liberal arts college, the Geisel School of Medicine, the Thayer School of Engineering, and the Tuck School of Business, as well as 19 graduate programs in the arts and sciences.[9] Incorporated as "the Trustees of Dartmouth College,"[10] it is one of the nine Colonial Colleges founded before the American Revolution.[11] With an undergraduate enrollment of 4,248 and a total student enrollment of 6,141, Dartmouth is the smallest school in the Ivy League.[4]

Dartmouth College was established in 1769 by Congregational minister Eleazar Wheelock. After a long period of financial and political struggles, Dartmouth emerged in the early 20th century from relative obscurity.[12] Dartmouth alumni, from Daniel Webster to the many donors in the 19th and 20th centuries, have been famously involved in their college.[13]

Dartmouth was founded by Eleazar Wheelock, a Puritan minister from Columbia, Connecticut, who had previously sought to establish a school to train Native Americans as missionaries. Wheelock's ostensible inspiration for such an establishment resulted from his relationship with Mohegan Indian Samson Occom. Occom became an ordained minister after studying under Wheelock from 1743 to 1747, and later moved to Long Island to preach to the Montauks.[19]

Wheelock founded Moor's Indian Charity School in 1755.[20] The Charity School proved somewhat successful, but additional funding was necessary to continue school’s operations, and Wheelock sought the help of friends to raise money. Occom, accompanied by Reverend Nathaniel Whitaker, traveled to England in 1766 to raise money from churches. With these funds, they established a trust to help Wheelock.[19] The head of the trust was a Methodist named William Legge, 2nd Earl of Dartmouth.

Meanwhile at another Catholic University taken over.... they are approaching free speech from a different angle. And the college republicans folded like a wet newspaper.

Ann Coulter At Fordham University: School President Joseph M. McShane Blasts College Republicans For Inviting Her

Controversial conservative pundit Ann Coulter was invited -- and then disinvited -- to speak at Fordham University in New York last week.

Fordham President Joseph M. McShane, S.J., chastised his campus' chapter of the College Republicans for inviting Coulter -- who recently referred to President Obama as a "retard" -- to speak on campus, paying her with student fees. He addressed the entire university with his decision in a campuswide email.

"To say that I am disappointed with the judgment and maturity of the College Republicans, however, would be a tremendous understatement," McShane wrote. "There are many people who can speak to the conservative point of view with integrity and conviction, but Ms. Coulter is not among them. Her rhetoric is often hateful and needlessly provocative—more heat than light—and her message is aimed squarely at the darker side of our nature."

McShane said preventing Coulter from speaking would "counter one wrong with another," and explicitly stated he wouldn't forbid the CRs from having her speak at the Jesuit university. Nevertheless, the Fordham CRs beat him to it anyway and quickly rescinded the invitation to Coulter.

"The College Republicans regret the controversy surrounding our planned lecture featuring Ann Coulter," they wrote in a statement announcing the cancellation. "The size and severity of opposition to this event have caught us by surprise and caused us to question our decision to welcome her to Rose Hill."

it may be a misquote but it is definitely a summation of the necessity for separation from god in repentance. separation from god is suffering, no?

i don't care to and haven't ridiculed mother teresa. this has nothing to do with what i do or don't believe in. or what these kids do or don't believe in. doesn't matter at all. people are entitled to their opinions and the president shouldn't jump in and pick a side in matters that have nothing to do with the business of presidency, as you suggested.
