I'm from Australia - my stepfather has petitioned for me as a child of USC.

I'm up to the NVC stage and I'm now gathering all my documents. When coming across the 'police check for places you have lived', I'm trying to figure out how to get a police check for Canada cause I spent just over a year living and working there after high school.

I've found some information from the RCMP site, and found it takes about 9 weeks to get the police check back. Also read on the Embassy site to not apply for medical or police checks until you have received the info from them along with appointment information?? Can I still go ahead and get my Canadian police check underway now and leave the Australian police check until the time of medical and appointment??

Does anyone know long is the Canadian police check valid for, so if I apply for it now would it expire before my medical and Australian police check would expire? Meaning I'd have to then enter the US before the Canadian police check is expired???

Please help. Thanks.

My Mom actually does them in Canada (Winnipeg MB) it takes anywhere from 2-6 weeks to get one from there (might be longer as you are out of country) As far as I know they are valid for 6 months. I know in Manitoba it is now the commissionaires and the city police that do them. RCMP (I believe) only do them in rural areas now but they are so much faster!

I would contact the commissionaires and see what they say. :)
