If they don't know how long AP will take why do they keep telling us to expect something in 2 weeks?! All I do now is check my calendar & count off the days, that's not healthy!

EvaMilly I think your best chance is the DOS. When I emailed the embassy in Cairo to get some sort of update, the response I got from them was beyond vague & didn't address anything I had asked. Maybe down in the DR they're better.

Iam having same situation. Iam waiting My passport from montreal 5weeks I email them no respond. I do not know what to do.

1. What did they tell you at the interview? Did they tell you that you were approved? Did they tell you that you were approved, but needed administrative processing?

2. are you Canadian by birth? Are both your parents Canadian by birth? If not, where were you/your parents born? It is extremely rare for Canadians to be put in AP.

3. call the Department of State at (202) 663-1225, press 1, then when you get to the main menu, press 0 to speak to a human. Have your case number ready. They'll be able to tell you if your visa is issued, or if you're in AP or AR.

4. Often times it helps to write "Urgent" in the subject line when you email the consulate. If your visa was approved with no AP, and it has been 5 weeks, your inquiry is definitely urgent.

Thanks Louza..but is the delay normal???

I am in the same situation as you & approaching the third week of waiting. I guess it depends on how quick the Embassy works through these things & even when you call DOS & you specifically ask for a time-frame they won't give it to you, so we really have nothing else to do but wait unfortunately.

I'm surprised that there are a few people still waiting for weeks after the interview. I'm in the same boat. It's been almost a month since my interview, and my passport status is till in limbo. UGH!! I have not heard a proper response from them; if I call the USEM in India, the only thing they tell me is that my case has be escalated and that I should wait for their email. I wonder if the USEM slows down during the festive months? Starting end of October, they are pretty much in a festive mood.. Or maybe the elections have caused the delay, or they simply feel like keeping random people on hold as part of some experiment.

Administrative processing is fairly normal in some countries, including India.

Again if you're wondering about the status of your visa, call the DOS and inquire. Their number is 202 663 1225, ours 1, then 0.

If you know you're in AP, the only thing to do really is to email the consulate every now and then. No one will give a time frame for AP.

Well I called DOS again today and the person I spoke to told me that the consulate is requesting my husband's passport. I asked her if were done with administrative processing, she said she wasn't completely sure about that information but that we should call the consulate to make sure. If the CO that interviewed was correct, his visa should be issued shortly after. I bought a pin today to call the consulate but it won't be active until tomorrow afternoon. I'm praying that this is the final step and no more waiting. Wish us luck!

The fact that they are requesting his passport is a very good thing.

Well I called the Consulate and they told me the total opposite of what DOS said. I called DOS again to confirm the request for the passport and they said they have an update from yesterday morning that confirms the passport request. The consulate has not had an update for our case since the 15th of this month. I'm hoping that the consulate updates their records soon so that this nightmare can hopefully be over soon.

I don't understand how the DOS on two different occasions tells you about the passport request yet the Consulate says something else?! Based on what is the DOS giving out this information?
