First of all, YAY that I've now graduated to the Foreign Embassy forum thanks to my NOA2.

Now onto my concerns.

Soooo, I switch jobs this month. My first day of work at my new job is the same date as my NOA2 (somewhat ironic). So, now I'm worried that my job history will look "erratic". I switched jobs for a raise, a promotion in my field, etc. But the fact of the matter is, I, obviously, have not been here very long. I make well above the 125% line, but yet, I'm still concerned how the job switch will appear to the reviewing officer.

To make a long story short, I asked my parents to be my co-sponsor.

Now, I would prefer to be able to do this "on my own". So would it be possible to just present MY financial information at the beginning and see if it flies, and then if not, THEN hand over my parent's?

Also, this may be a stupid question and it may be answer by just looking at the affidavit of support form (which i haven't done yet), but can my parents sponsor together, since their taxes are filled together and all accounts are joint? Or does only one of them need to fill out the form?

Danke!

YAY! So excited to be in the next step.

The I-134 doesn't require the submission of tax returns.

if you are self-employed it does!

Mine was fine Cass, no need to worry about job history.

Is the OP self-employed?

nope, but the way you said one might construe that as all filers do not need tax returns...

Conceeded. But I was answering the OP, who said she hadn't read the instructions......... ;)

Haha, I know!

I've read over them before, it's not like I'm COMPLETELY in the dark. I'm just...a wee bit overwhelmed right now.

But nevertheless, I still haven't had my questioned answered about the parents sponsoring jointly or not.

But I guess if I'll be fine with my income/job, it doesn't matter anyways. :P

Cass,

Like a smart career move? Unless the new employer (is it a new employer?) is publicly known to be 'on the ropes' and in danger of shutting it's doors if the new talent like you that it's hired can't engineer a quick turn-around.

How long were you at the previous job? And the job before that? All moving you ahead, or treading water, or because you were thrown out of the last job? Context, Cass. Provide context.

Cass, the reason I answered you the way I did is this.

I think you asked your folks for a mighty big favor before you got the information you needed. Just my opinion being a mom myself, but by the same token an older child who also asked my parents for back up - that ended up not being needed.

You don't need your parents to sign.

If you are nervous about your change in circumstance, send a letter as an attachment to your I-134 explaining the change. You could include old pay stubs that verify you are now earning more.

PS - Oh Yodrak is also very astute................

I've been reading guides/examples on AOS all morning!

Makes you go nearly blind, doesn't it?

NO KIDDING! But after wasting 3 hours of work time & printing out all forms, I'm good I think.

I printed what I knew (& can save) then highlighted things I need answers to. The stupid I-864 is the screwiest!!! I'm at a contract job that ends in Jan. We are moving to Cali in Feb. I will have to get my mom to co-sponsor (joint sponsor it's called?). I'm old enough & make enough to sponsor but as I was a UK student for 2 years, I didn't. Plus I am moving. I was fine for the I-134 but prolly not for the I-864.

ARGH!

rebeccajo,

Meeting the public charge provisions of the law usually requires more documentation than an I-134. A tax return or 3 is a commonly requested item to document income.

Yodrak....

We aren't talking about any enforceable law. We are talking about the I-134.
