Hello,

While my fiancee and I wait for NOA2, which may one day come unless it collapses into a black hole from the weight of the dust it accumulates,we were wondering about what would be needed from his end. He is a Canadian citizen but lived in Australia for three years and has obtained a good conduct certificate. The question is, does it have to be with prints or without. I know for the Canadian police check prints are only taken if the computers get a "hit" on the name- but the aussie website is unclear and the Visa websites are vague.

We appreciate any advice you can offer on this.

Cheers y'all!

For Australian police checks, you will need an AFP (Australian Federal Police) form which does require fingerprints, see this link : http://www.afp.gov.au/what-we-do/police-checks/national-police-checks.aspx

The good news is they are relatively quick (15 days), which is VERY fast in comparison to other countries, and that's based on ink fingerprints!

I would call your local police station in Canada and tell them you need fingerprints done for a US VISA to send to Australia. Even though I was in Australia, I was in a similar predicament because I lived in WA (Western Australia), and in WA they are not linked up to the national database, BUT they did only use electronic fingerprints in all police stations in WA, to access the WA database (stupid I know!). I ended up calling up a few places and found out that ONE police station in Perth city (our capital) did issue notarized finger prints for this very reason. So I was able to get some ink on paper fingerprints and mail it off to Sydney to get my AFP Federal police check. I'm sure you'll have similar luck if you call around, starting at your local police station.

If not you can always call the AFP here: +61 2 6140 6502 and talk to them, I called them a few times, and they were EXTREMELY helpful. They are very nice people on that help center.

Good Luck to you!

Perfect! That is exactly what we needed to hear!

The website says that they will also accept livescan taken prints, but best to call them. We've had to deal with them before as on the last police certificate they sent, they kept issuing it to the wrong birthdate. Hopefully they are better about it this time.

Thank you for the quick reply!
