Another issue I have been thinking alot on lately... as of course my husband and I have future inchallah plans to do alot of traveling between North Africa, Europe and the US... and the more I talk to my husband on how things are in both the US and Europe... he seems to too set in his *normal* ways... which I can understand, he has not been out of NA all his life, so he does not know anything else. Another area of *concern* I have for him (out of many hehe) is practising his religion. Well what I mean is... He goes to the masjid for every prayer, rarely doees not pray in the masjid. Makes allhis prayers in the correct times, makes every jumuua prayer, etc.

Well as I was living most of my life in Europe, then some years in the US, also being a revert...I never had the *luxury* to practise my religion as I wanted (ie: going to pray in the masjid, always doing my prayers in their times, etc)...also as a women (in my religion) it is not manadatory as it is for males (to make all prayers in the masjid)...

And when my family who are Orthodox Catholics visited me in the US...they too, found many of the *ritual* things they were used to doing they simply could not do *as they wanted*...and they found this very difficult and annoying... So I post this question for all VJ members (not only Muslims) how you and your SO cope with religious practices in the US... Example: like Muslims attending the Jumuaa prayers when Friday in the US is not a off-day, esp around the zuhr prayer time..., Religious holidays like Jewish Youm Kipper, Muslim Eids, etc...

i know my husband is very open-minded, compromising one, but I think it would really be shocking and difficult for him these changes from his norm...

Also I think someone, I donnot want to make another poll or thread LOL... but someone else should make a thread to talk about what things were difficult for your SO to adjust to... I am very curious on this point....!!!

Thanks everyone!

Peace and Blessings

That's something that we talked about. He was shocked that he'll have to walk about 20 minutes to get to the nearest Islamic Center. That's all we have here too I think, just Islamic Centers, not total plain masjids.

I have no idea what he'll do once he starts working since that's a challenge that I face as well. When I'm not out interviewing people I'm ok since my office has a door and I just close it when it's time to pray. I also have a one person bathroom here so making wudu isn't a biggie. When I'm off on an audit though in a different environment it totally sucks 'cause there's no opportunity to make wudu and pray and that means I have to make up about two prayers when I get home to hungry tired children. :(

Unlike many of the husbands of the ladies here...my husband isn't overly religious. He prays at home..it's not necessary for him to do it at the masgid. He's also not really "timely" about praying either. His family tries to talk to him about it and he's just like..eh whatever. He's very knowledgeable about his religion and loves his religion but he's not crazy into it or anything. He's quite moderate.

Yes even though I was living in area filled with Muslims...I still had to drive about 20min to get to the nearest *Islamic centre*..while my husband here only walks about 2 min... so I was really wondering about everyone experiences and *talks* with their SO...mine seems to think he can just pop into the masjid as he does now at every prayer time...

Well my husband is quite moderate also...and I think he just going to the masjid as a habit... since this is what he taught and his family does. He meets his friends on the way there and back for *talks* and coffee drinking...so it is almost *social* for him as well as religion... We prayed together a few times at home, which he said he felt *better* about...
