My stopover was Narita, Japan too & I didn't have Japan Transit Visa.

Nor did we, multiple trips through Narita both ways.

Some people buy tickets that have them leaving the transit area, which is a mistake in planning. A change in carriers might do it or an especially long layover maybe.

The employees are really helpful for people that are first time travelers and confused about what to do. For those doing it the first time, never be afraid to ask. They aren't like unionized employees from the USA.

Strange indeed. Did you use your Philippine passport when entering Japan? You didn't file for anything? And how long ago was this? Japan is usually not so lenient to Filipinos. Count yourself lucky! My wife was denied. And she's been in the US for years!

I didn't show my Philippine passport. They didn't ask for it. It was in 2005. I always fly direct flight using PAL after having stopping to stop in Japan. This is still the procedure according to the Narita Airport website. http://www.narita-ai.../book/01-02.pdf There's no mention of a visa if it's a connecting flight. I stayed inside the gate. I didn't go out. There's lots of stores inside the gate and with only 1.5 hours to spare, I didn't feel the need to go out of the airport. Did your wife go out of the airport?

Japan requires a Transit Visa. Especially for Filipinos.

You do need ID to transfer planes. And pass through TSA.

We just came back from the Philippines two months ago. Denied a Transit Visa for Japan. Had to get one for China. Approved. Then had to pass through TSA checkpoints a good half a dozen times to get home. Probably more. Also had to go through immigration clearance twice. And customs. ID was in our hands constantly needing presentation.

Good news, however, were not questioned at all for being out of the USA for nearly a year.

Maybe you didn't follow the signs that say connecting flights. The stewardess announced that prior getting off the plane to make sure to follow the signs that say connecting flights.

Passport will be needed. If she is new to America, it's doubtful she already have a DMV issued ID, or the like.

TSA will not accept a TIN, SSS, NBI, Postal, UMID, etc.

Thanks for the correction. I just called LAX US Citizensip and Immigration Services. TSA will need a government issued ID

Thanks for the correction. I just called LAX US Citizensip and Immigration Services. TSA will need a government issued ID

So by the time I enter LAX (POE), aside from my Philippine passport with visa, I still have to present another valid Philippine ID? I have a Philippine driver's license. Is that enough?

The only ID you will need for your entire trip is your passport.
