On a lighter note, here's what Cheney had to say about Kerry's remark:

"Of course, Senator Kerry said he was just making a joke, and he botched it up. I guess we didn't get the nuance.

Actually, he was for the joke before he was against it," Cheney said.:lol:

Among the people who ARE running for office this year are 11 Iraqi veterans, 10 of them are running as Democrats including a woman who lost both her legs.

I wonder if what John Kerry said will actually affect their chances?

 Rovian trickery...I'm betting on the American public to be wiser for it.

As Bush said:

"There's an old saying in Tennessee — I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again."

who cares what John Kerry said any more? He's not up for re-election and nothing he did or didn't say will change the fact that more than 100 US troops died this month in Iraq and we need to find a solution so that more men and women don't come home in bodybags.

Karl Rove is desperately drawing straws. You can smell defeat on Capital Hill.

No, some of us take offense to being called uneducated and lacking in ambition as Kerry did. I would take as much offense to this regardless of the time of the election cycle.

Being offended by a man who's not running for office is going to change which vote for you, Gary?

You are laboring under a false impression Steve. It's not about politics or the election. It's about a person that is in a position of power dis'ing the very people that ensures his right to speak that sh!t.

I don't give a rats a$$ if it changes one vote one way or another. It's disrespectful to people that are putting their life on the line to protect all of us.

But Gary, wasn't it you who dismissed all the outrage by the Democrats over the Foley case as election time tactics??? Come on...show me a little honesty here. ;)

Yesterday, on CNN, House Majority Leader John Boehner blamed the US military for losing the war in Iraq:

House Majority Leader John Boehner: Wolf, I understand that, but let's not blame what's happening in Iraq on Rumsfeld.

Wolf Blitzer: But he's in charge of the military.

House Majority Leader John Boehner: But the fact is the generals on the ground are in charge and he works closely with them and the president. [CNN, 11/1/06]

Given an opportunity to take back that comment, Boehner elected instead to stay the course.

A Boehner spokesman later insisted that blaming the military for losing the war is not criticizing the military.

You just don't get it Steve. I doubt if you ever will. I can only hope that some day you will realize the difference between politics and respect for the people who protect you. Not all things in this world revolve around politics or who wins elections. But I guess you will never see that.

I'm out of this thread before I blow a gasket.

I think he's pointing out that its not just Kerry who has done this, if you accept (which I assume you do) that what he said was not a botched joke at the president. After all, the guy doesn't seem particularly great at telling jokes anyway, so perhaps he should steer clear of them.

Similarly, some might argue that the current administration doesn't have respect for the military either - but rather hides behind it to defend their policies.

That's just my take.
