Hi, my story is this: I have filed for EAD september 18, according to the time line i should receive it this week, but instead i received 2 identical travel documents (advanced parole), though i applied for them later on october 1. When i checked the status of my EAD, it is still in process, no decision. So now i'm thinking why it takes so long and why they sent me 2 APs?

I'm assuming that when you say you checked the status of your EAD, you mean on the USCIS website.

Their website is unreliable. Go by what you received in the mail.

I almost moved your post to the AOS from family visas forum, since you are at that stage of your immigration journey.

I see, thnk you. in the mail i only received a letter that they accepted my documents and receipt #. Is it any use calling them?

I'm confused now, didn't you say you received your EAD/AP?

Let's start over:

1 - You filed for EAD/AP in Sept and Oct (respectively)

According to your Timeline:

EAD: Based on timeline data, your EAD may be adjudicated between November 21, 2012 and November 23, 2012*.

AP: Based on timeline data, your AP may be adjudicated between December 7, 2012 and December 9, 2012*.

So, did you or did you not, receive approval for EAD or AP? If you did.......How did you receive that approval notice? Through email? Through text messages?

Ahhh ok, now I understand.

What you received were two NOA1 for AP instead of one for each process, right?

You can call with your case numbers at hand and ask or wait a little longer and see if you might get approval for EAD within the next week or so. After all, it's almost November 20th and the Timeline estimate says between the 21st and 23rd!

If I were you, I would call USCIS to the numbers on the NOA1, to clarify the situation and have some peace of mind yes.gif

I think the OP got an old-style paper AP, not a combo card. The paper AP is two identical pieces of paper. The OP applied for EAD first and then added the AP, so it makes sense that they would be separated. OP - It looks like the AP got approved and sent out early, and you'll have to wait a bit more for the EAD card. It still hasn't been 3 months, so I would just be happy you got your AP early. Good luck.

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

The listed processing time is 3 months. https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/processingTimesDisplay.do

To expect it any sooner is only setting up frustration and disappointment.

yes, maybe you're right, i checked it, thnx. For some reason i was sure it's 2 months, saw it somewhere, dnt remember. Well, i've got to wait more, though waiting kills.

and this is what is really strange, why then they approved my AP and sent it to me, though I applied for it much later than for my EAD?

and I have called them, but all they can say is just check my status on-line, which i could do too and tell me what i already know. I thought they have an access to every particular case and can tell more details

anyway thank you, all people who helped me with my question :)

Your timeline says you applied for both the same date on September 20. If you sent them separately then it's likely the lone AP got approved first. So they sent you the old style AP documents that are a letter sized piece of paper. They always send two. If you travel, leave one at home. Take one plus a photocopy. They may keep the original you present, but if you take another trip there's the second one still at home. Usually a photocopy is okay for any other trips after they take one of you originals on the first trip.

That's how all the APs were before they came out with the combo-card for EAD/AP.

Edit: oh sorry...I failed to see there were more posts and didn't see Harpa had already given my idea.
