Let me tell you what happened to my family. My great-grandparents and grandparents lived in Haifa and had for more than a half century. My dad grew up there. The Jews wanted our neighborhood so they could control the port to bring in ships full of foreign Jews. They also wanted our homes and businesses for the benefit of the foreign Jews. In April 1948, the Haganah and some other forces showed up and routed the remaining Arabs out of their homes at gun point, forced them into trucks and took them away. This is much like what was done to them in Europe, so they learned from the Nazis well.

All of our property was confiscated, never to be returned. In fact, despite having proof of ownership, the government refuses restitution. Our property is part of a mass parcel holding by the Israeli government, which controls 93% of all the land. They made a deal with a Jewish group that buys land for Jews only and planned to turn this parcel holding over to this group to sell to Jews only, even though it is in dispute. Fortunately, an Arab rights group took the deal to court and had it stopped, but the land is still being held by the government.

Land is a hot commodity in Israel. It's considered to be property of the Jews, and is much harder for Arabs to get. I belong to a family trust that buys and sells land in Israel for investment purposes. Part of the reason why we do this is because we want to have standing in cases involving anti-Arab discriminatory practices and laws, such as the situation above.

Our managing officer often has to use Jewish beards to front for the company heads to obtain property from Jews who refuse to lease or sell to Arabs because prominent rabbis ruled that Jews should not sell to Arabs or patronize Arab businesses.

Israel is teaching its population to hate.

I don't have equal rights. You have top tier Jewish rights, and I have third tier Arab rights.

No you actually have more rights than I do. You don't have to do military service yet you can enjoy health insurance, unemployment and any other "social security" like benefit, you can vote for your traitor Arab members of parliament, that I have to pay 10,000 dollars a month just so they can spit in my face, you can build your house without getting permissions like the rest of us, avoid taxes, speak your mind and go anywhere freely, dress freely, unlike any other countries in the neighborhood...yeah if you don't like the rights you have maybe you don't deserve them.

Both of our families lived in Haifa then...maybe they were friends! :D I'll definitely ask my gram about your story as I like to hear both sides. Whether it happened or not does not change the fact that the Arabs in the 20's started attacking the Jews, whereas the Jews tried to defend themselves and do what they had to do to survive and be able to establish their homeland. What you are mentioning happened after the war started in 1947. You be freightened after being attacked for 3 decades in pogroms in your own land and a holocaust over in Europe, and then be attacked by 5 different armies at once, and see how you react. It is not much different from the Americans placing the Japanese in camps during WWII. I'm not saying I necessarily agree with neither or think they should have happened, but until we're in their shoes at the time with everything that's going on it's hard to judge. Also, people like to talk about the Palestinian refugees but tend to forget that around that same time about the same amount of Jews were kicked out of the surrounding Muslim countries. While Israel took those Jews and gave them a homeland, the neighboring countries found it convenient to leave the Palestinians in refugee camps, so they can use it as a card as they do till this very day.

Israel does not teach anyone to hate, and what you mentioned about Jews not renting or selling to Arabs is a minority of a minority, usually orthodox jews(seculars don't tend to listen to rabbis), and most of us including myself who aren't orthodox do not agree with it. However, if a Jew tries to buy or rent a house in an Arab village, the attitude is normally the same so again, you're only looking at one side.

Oriz...I like you also because we both have an opinion and we both respect each others opinions. I didnt mean to get far into details about this subject as it is just really silly and all this violence in the holy land really just needs to stop. Causalities from both sides are completely unnecessary and not needed. I am half Palestinian from a tiny village right across from the Ariel settlement. Ive been there many times in my life and love that piece of holy land that is just so beautiful. But why all this violence? We can sit here and point fingers all day...but in the end ITS BOTH OF THEIR FAULTS! And its not more ones fault than it is the others. One day I hope I am alive to see peace in the land Ive loved all my life. And I know all of you wish for the same. But I dont think we will see that in our generation.

Rocket fired at Jerusalem, hits West Bank

Reuters – 2 hrs 40 mins ago

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - A rocket was fired at Jerusalem on Tuesday, missing the holy city and landing in the near-by West Bank, police said, adding that there were no casualties or damage.

Islamist militant group Hamas said it had fired the missile out of the Gaza Strip in response to continued Israeli airstrikes on the Palestinian territory.

It was the second time a rocket has been launched toward Jerusalem since Israel's Gaza offensive began last Wednesday, with sirens sounding around the city, sending pedestrians running for cover.

"The rocket landed in the West Bank. No damage or casualties," a police spokesman said, adding that it was one of 95 rockets launched into Israel on Wednesday. Thirty of them were intercepted by the Iron Dome system.

Hamas's armed wing said it had fired a Qassam M75 rocket. "If you go back to carrying out attacks, we will go back to responding," a statement said

Since the start of the conflagration, hundreds of missiles have been launched deep into Israel. Israel has warned it will broaden its offensive in the Gaza Strip if Palestinian militants do not stop their rocket fire.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Hamas kills suspected collaborators with Israel

Associated Press – 21 mins ago

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) — Witnesses say masked gunmen have publicly killed six suspected collaborators with Israel at a busy Gaza City intersection.

The Hamas military wing claimed responsibility.

Witnesses said the six men were pulled out of a van Tuesday, forced to lie face down on the street and then shot dead.

Five bodies lay in a pile as a mob stomped and spit on them. A sixth body was tied to a motorcycle and dragged through the streets as people screamed, "Spy! Spy!"

Hamas posted a sign on an electricity pole, naming the six alleged informers.

The public killings came during an Israeli military offensive that has killed more than 120 people, both militants and civilians.

Israel relies on a network of local informants to identify its targets.

Senior Hamas military chief urges continued battle

By AMY TEIBEL and KARIN LAUB | Associated Press – 3 hrs ago

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) — A man identified as the most elusive top military commander of Hamas is urging the group's fighters to keep up attacks on Israel.

Mohammed Deif, seriously wounded in an Israeli airstrike in 2003, says Hamas "must invest all resources to uproot this aggressor from our land," a reference to Israel.

He was speaking from hiding on Hamas-run TV and radio.

Deif is one of the founders of the Hamas military wing and was its top commander until he was wounded in 2003. He was replaced as by Ahmed Jabari, who was assassinated by Israel last week in the opening salvo of its latest Gaza offensive.

The speaker on TV and radio was introduced as Deif, and a Gaza reporter said the speaker sounded like Deif.

Israel warns Gazans to flee homes with leaflets

Associated Press – 16 mins ago

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) — Israeli warplanes have dropped leaflets on several Gaza City neighborhoods urging people to evacuate their homes immediately.

Tuesday's warnings could signal a new round of heavy airstrikes on residential areas in the Palestinian territory.

The leaflets say "For your safety, you are required to evacuate your residences immediately and move toward central Gaza City" and list areas where people should go.

Palestinian militants have urged residents to ignore the warnings, calling them "psychological warfare."

Egypt's President Mohammed Morsi says a cease-fire ending six days of fighting between Israel and Hamas militants is imminent as top diplomats converge on the region.

Israel has dropped such leaflets previously but never over such a wide area.

Israel is firing missiles into one of the most densely populated areas on the planet populated by people it does not like, so why exactly would it need to start pin pointing arab children. Throw a rock in a field and you'll likely hit grass at some point.

Yeah, that's why they are going out of their way to warn "these people they don't like" about the incoming missiles.

And why after firing 1,350 missiles, they only killed 100 people - 1 person per 13.5 missiles. They must have terrible aim! If they are trying to kill Arab children, they are not doing a very good job.

OriZ doesn't like you, abezyo. He called us his enemy. He says people like us are rapists and murderers. He thinks we can't be trusted.

According to him, Jews who came to Palestine just wanted to have fun. They didn't mean to steal land. They didn't mean to blow up buildings, rob trains, become terrorists. They weren't intending to create Israel where our people were living; it just happened. Why are we so upset about it? Why be mean? They've always been just peace loving folk who didn't mean to take over a country, spew propaganda, create revisionist history, forget their real history and actions, use up so much of America's tax dollars, or tell everybody how mean Arabs are and how angelic Zionists have always been. It just happened! They can't help it.

It's our fault he hates us. All our fault.

You sound pretty hateful there yourself.

You wrote these lies and three knuckleheads liked it. Don't try to pretend that Israel doesn't teach people to hate. It's very effective at it.

Kettle/pot.

So, you do support Apartheid?

Yes, he does, but he'll deny it.
