An excuse? You can't even compare the 2 VP. You are talking about extremisn that is along the lines of Nazi Germany and Hitler. It's not even just a few, there is a large growling number of extremists in the entire region. Those people represent nothing that is Arab or Muslim. There is no reason to even defend what them or what they do. If you are defending them, then you are silently agreeing with them. Do you also think its just the way its presented by the media? Trust me its not. I do agree that the media does misprepresent things but this is not the case here. There is some but the root of this problem does exist and its spreading like a disease.

I am not excusing what the few bad Arabs do.... you are however excusing racism.

I am not excusting racism towards my OWN RACE. You are not an Arab VP  I don't consider these people to be Arabs or Muslims nor are they doing anything that benifits us.

Can you blame Mawlison or anyone for that matter for feeling that way? Quite honestly, any race that is portrayed the way arabs are on TV would get the same reaction from the general public. I don't agree with Mawlisons statements and I myself am an Arab, but I do understand how and why people do feel that way. I myself am against the Arabs and Extremists that have tarnished our name over the decades.

It's not an excuse... I can watch the news and see white men who rape and kill their children... black men who steal cars... white women on street corners being arrested for prostitution... etc etc etc....

doesn't give me or anyone else an excuse to judge the whole race on the actions of the few, even if that is how the media presents it.

Woah, slow down there! mawilson posted a cartoon that implies that learning about Islam means learning about explosives, smack in the middle of this thread. There is no excuse for that, and saying that it was inappropriate and bigoted is by no means supporting terrorism!

There are no threads that are immune from outside posters. I don't even know what this thread is about however I can say that the title and current discussion go hand in hand. There is a difference between and excuse and understanding why the vast majority of Americans feel this way. I didn't say that anyone here was supporting terrorism. I said to defend people that misprepresent Islam and Arabs is a way of silently agreeing with them. VP made a comment and I posted a reply. Its not uncommon for any thread to get off topic in VJ.

No, it is not uncommon. But I think you should read the thread, at least the beginning. There was simply discussion regarding an educational opportunity. And then along comes this cartoon.

The fact that you call the possible presence of Arabs in India "bad news" proves you're racist :P

(i just had to beat VP to the punch on that one  )

Ok and you think that is uncommon? Virtually 80% of the threads about Islam in VJ get hijacked. I saw a post and I replied. Regardless if it had anything to do with the original topic, the thread was already hijacked and I saw something I wanted to comment on.

I don't hate all Arabs.

For example, JP is such a sweet person, I could never dislike her even if I wanted to. (F)(L)

VP, on the other hand, makes me want to join the IDF.... fastfire.gif

ETA: maybe the title goes with the current discussion, but that was really not the point of this thread. rahma just posted a link to an educational opportunity. Sorry, but it was totally out of line IMO, and apparently Ewok agreed, since it was removed.

And rahma very specifically did not post the real title of the lecture, because she was well aware of the maturity level of several posters here and wished to avoid their brand of "humor."

hmmm, rahma is enjoying speaking in the 3rd person. maybe this will become a trend for her.

It sure sounds like you're making excuses for racism towards your own race.... will it be so funny when your husband gets here and is mistaken for a muslim Arab and suffers this same discrimitation that you defend now? Will you give the offender a cookie?

What does me not being Arab have to do with anything? My husband is Arab, our children (inshallah) will be Arab, my family from his side are all Arab!

I don't have to be Arab to know that racism is wrong.. no matter who it's directed at... my religion teaches me that.... does yours?

I'm in a fighting mood? Please! You included yourself in this discussion, my comments were towards VP not you. If you want to patrol the boards and tell people when they can and can't post, it's not gonna fly. You are obviously making a big thing. I saw a comment and I posted. End of story. I never posted anything about the cartoon nor would I waste my time with something like that.
