Wow ...I'd add more but my jaw is hanging down so much it is interfering with the keyboard.

Gupt- didn't you promise Ewok to behave yourself in this forum last week?

Charles- Are you being deliberate or accidental in your desire to add fuel to the fire esp in this forum?

VP- Sweetie, I think you need to stop arguing with JP and listen to what she has to teach you about racism, ignorance, and tolerance. (L)

Apologies to Rahma for participating in the highjackng of this thread. What a wonderful educational thread this could have been. (F)

VP, take a minute (or 20) and read through everything you wrote and what JP wrote- she is a smart woman and you can learn a lot from her as I have! Good luck! :help:

I didn't make the comment about this being America and to speak english, YOU DID. If you are so stuck on that idea then take your own advice and dress, act, speak like an Ameican.

I only made that comment as toungue in cheek because you were being so pleasant to me.

and just incase anyone was wondering, disagreeing with VP is a violation of TOS.

those words you're putting in my mouth taste rank.

This was on page 2 when I left for work this morning.

What happened???

Allah tries his chosen people through many hardships, but those who persevere through adversity, surrendering themselves before the will of Allah, shall be blessed with a superb reward.

-The Prophet Muhammad (SAW), as reported by Anas bin Malik

A time will come when the sky is torn apart; when the stars scatter, and the ocean drains away; and when the graves are tossed about, and laid open. At that time every man will be told what he has done, and what he has failed to do; and every woman will be told what she has done, and what she has failed to do.

-Qur'an, Al-Infitar, Surah 82:1-5

This is actually an inaccurate statement... your little cartoon did not cause any incident here  it was reported and removed without comment.

It was the lack of respect for fellow members and the admins here that caused "all hell to break lose".

MBP, while I admit I have much to learn in life (as does everyone), learning to tolerate racism is not a lesson I want. (F)

I agree the cartoon was long gone when things fell apart. And what could have been a MENA discussion/debate/disagreement turned into a free for all due to flippant agitation by VJers who are more interested in stirring up the pot to past thier time and provide entertainmnet for themselves. Which VJers? I think the posts speak for themselves in this thread and many threads on this particular forum.

VP- while I may have disagreed with your take on JP's postings last night, I think you handled youself much better this time round with these other posts.

A perfect example of why healthy debate does not go on. Learning about racism, ignorance and tolerance becomes "learning to tolerate racism".

After I posted I realized I should have edited my comment to you that JP has a lot to teach all of us- not you specific. sorry if can across too harsh on you.

If I may I will just expand a little more on what I meant. I think there is a difference between being a racist and saying racists things. All of us can say something racist but its more likely out of ignorance or lack of experience than a deeply held racist ideology.

I do not think anyone on this board ever advocated tolerating racism. I think the idea was that we should tolerate people. Those very same people you mention that historically have fought for an end to racism also practiced tolerance. Tolerance does not mean accepting someones right to a bigoted view of the world, nor does it mean keeping silent when such remarks are made. Advocating tolerance in the face of racism means pushing for change through eudcation, personal example and honest dialogue between people.

that's exactly right, there is no such thing as reverse racism. Minority groups can engage in stereotyping and prejudice, but racism is believing one's race is superior to another, and believing you have the right to dominate the race(s) you deem inferior. A race of people who do not have power to dominate another, cannot be racist.

i do hope this was sarcasm........

tommorrow's agenda - vote republican straight ticket and get back on the top of jenn's list :P

That'll guarantee you a spot for sure! But you'll be joined my many others. Including my own mother - the horror! :o

I had an English professor back in college who argued that very point. No one in the class bought into it, though. I don't buy it either. I think you can be racist and not have any effect (because you're a nobody) but you're still a racist.

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

my thoughts too. the stated requirement of "...have power to dominate another" isn't true, imo.

Precisely -- however it appears that some forms of racism are more acceptable than others

(as evidenced by the racist BET channel, which spews racist programming and rap music

24 hours a day.)
