Hey guys its been a long time since i been on here. I was wondering if we can do this. I want to bring my mother in law here from Philippines on a tourist visa or the best option. my wife is not yet a us citizen. may i help her get here under since i'm a us citizen

You being a US citizen and her daughter being in the US may actually hurt her chances of getting a tourinst visa. Your MIL MUST show very strongs ties to the PI to Embassy that will make them think she will return to the PI. Does she own property or have a job or have a good reason to go back to the PI? Please think about this logically and not emotionally as the IO a the Embassy will look at the evidence in front of him/her to make the decision. A return ticket or your word that your MIL will return are not good enough. My MIL was granted a visa to visit us this summer. I was worried that she would be denied as she has property, a job, a son, DIL and two grandchildren, but she has not been out of the FSU to show that she will follow the rules of a visa. Has your MIL travelled anywhere else and return within the alloted time of a visa?

All you can do is write a letter stating why she is visiting, the lenght of time of her visit , and that you will provide for her expenses while she is in the US. That along with all the proof of her ties to the PI for the tourist visa and see what happens. You will never know if you do not try.

Your MIL will have to prove strong ties to the Philippines. She can demonstrate this by showing that she has a stable & good earning job, properties under her name (car, house, land, condo) and money/bank savings.

As her son-in-law, you pretty much can't do anything. She has to be approved on her own merits.

Your MIL coming to the US with a tourist visa could be a long shot. Like what other members, she needs to demonstrate a strong ties to the country, that she'll likely to return and doesn't have an intent to stay.

Thank you guys, She owns land in the Philippines and is getting ready to retire as a school teacher/principal. I think its better that I bring her to permantely live. What do you guys think is better. This is our plan. How long is it taking for paperwork to bring immediate relative here. What forms do we have to fill out.

you cannot file for her, once your wife is a USC, then she can file for her mother to come permanently. until then, the only way to visit is a tourist visa

only USC can petition for parents, and you cannot petition for in laws.

none for now

first your wife has to become a US Citizen

I already told you. the only way she can come for now is for her to get her own tourist visa. there is no way for her to come permanently

how long until your wife can apply for naturalization?

Owning a land would not guarantee an approval and with her semi-retiring could even raise a suspicion.

Just wait for your wife to become citizen then she'll file for I-130. You can't file for your MIL.

We are filing my wife's citizenship next month.
