My case has been complete by NVC since May 2012, and in the 6 months since, I have not received an interview date or time for my spouse. I emailed NVC many times and they only respond by saying that we will receive an interview date and time based on availability. They do not give any additional information as to why the delay and how long we should wait.

Is anyone else having this problem? Is this unusual? How long must we wait?

Any help is appreciated and thank you.

I have no idea what time frame you should expect for your embassy, however 6 months does seem like a good bit of time. You said you emailed the NVC - have you tried calling and getting a live body? Maybe they would be more willing to actually pull up your case info and check it out instead of just pasting back the standard email reply.

Just a thought

Hang in there. It appears that services at the American Embassy in Yemen are still very limited because of the ongoing security situation. Link This may continue to delay things for some time. Keep checking the Embassy's website and other State department links for more insight to see if the situation will resume to a more regular schedule. They've taken quite a hit and are being hyper vigilante. Unfortunately you're still feeling the ripple effects of that.

While things are in a holding pattern at the NVC I'm not really sure what you should be doing or what you can do. I do like the suggestion of calling them and seeing where you should go from here. Here is the link of contact information for the NVC: LINK

Otherwise if you are unable to get answers from them I would advise contacting your local Congressman to seek and inquiry into how you should proceed. Please update us on how it went and what you ended up doing. It may help others who are also petitioning for someone from Yemen as well. Sending my best wishes for you all. (F)

Thank you for your replies.

It is a CR1 visa and I have contacted my congressman several times. Each of these times the NVC states that they are attempting to schedule an interview date and time for the following month but it will be based on availability. I have spoken to the NVC many times but they seem reluctant to help, they want to rush me off the phone, and are very robotic with telegraphed responses. They just say "the case is complete and we will schedule an appointment for an interview when a time and date is available from the US Embassy Yemen". I will call NVC again and ask to speak to a supervisor and post an update.

Also, we sent the NVC the DS-230 and our case was complete prior to the the July 1,2012 DS-260 filing requirement. So, I asked NVC if I now had to complete the DS-260 online, and if we don't complete it, will it prevent us from receiving an appointment. They said that on their end our case is complete and is awaiting an interview date and time. If i do have to complete the DS-260, I will be notified to do so after an interview is scheduled at the US Embassy in Yemen. But currently it will not stop or delay in receiving an interview date and time as our case is complete and only awaiting scheduling. I wonder if they are right on this as well.

Again thanks for the help.

Electronic Visa Immigrant Visa Application required after July 1,2012. If the case was approved prior to this date, a DS-260 must still be completed and the confirmation page must be brought to the interview. See yemen.usembassy.gov/immigrant_visas.html

Is there anyone else whose case was complete for some time and have not yet received an interview date and time from US Embassy in Yemen? Or, is everyone waiting because of backlog? Please provide feedback so i can try to get a consensus if I am the only one in this situation. I'm curious to know if there are others are experiencing the same problem and trying to determine if this is currently the normal situation for everyone that is waiting for Immigrant Visas Interview Scheduling in Yemen.

Update: Spoke to NVC and no help. "They say that the Visa Unit in Yemen is open and sceduling interviews. We are still awaiting scheduling"... 6 months... nothing new, same old song. Perhaps I will try again with a State Senator or congressman.

As usual, thanks for the help and feedback

Have you tried emailing the Embassy IV section? They might give you a better idea of when they may start having appointments available. All I know is they are down to skeletal staff since the most recent protests. A (L) O already gave you those links.

I do recall maybe two others going through the Yemen embassy in a similar situation as yourself within the past year. Have you tried searching the Yemen portal on here to get in contact with others or doing an advanced thread search?

Hi there !

I am originally from Yemen and got married to a moroccan, as a result, they put me on background check for almost a year, followed by RFE to verify documents ( casue any civil documents issued in Yemen is subject to verification prior to approval) and finally interview at USCIS local office till I got approved. I am currently at NVC stage, I think, getting an interview date for Morocco is faster than Yemen.

My Yemeni friend, who petitioned his Yemeni wife and case completed last December 2011, finally got an appoitment on Oct 31, 2012. His wife and her new born showed up at the consulate, but they were rejected because she submitted the old form of DS-230 instead of DS-260, she asked the Yemeni guy at the consulate if she can do it (DS-260 form) and bring it back to them at the same day, and the guy refused to let her in and since then, she is waiting for another interview. He contacted his congressman and senator but so far, he did not hear from the US embassy in Yemen or NVC.

I sugget to you to e-mail US consulate in Sanaa and at the same time resubmit DS-260 cause your spouse might get denied if she used the old form of DS-230 instead of DS-260.

Good luck.....

I'd first like to thank you all for your assistance and helpful insight.

Livetolove- I am sorry to hear that after waiting so long that your Yemeni friend was rejected at the US embassy in Yemen. It is unfortunate, but this is common at the US Embassy in Yemen as my brothers also had problems years ago when they applied for their wives and encountered insensitive employees, inconsistent processing, and required numerous hard to get visits.

Based on your friends dilemma, I will not hesitate in completing the DS-260 sooner rather than later.

To me, it seems that based on your response as well as the response from H&A&N, the typical wait time is currently approximated at around a year after NVC has completed the case. Unless current conditions change, for us, this would mean approximately another 4 to 5 months which is unfortunate.

My heart to goes out to all those like me during this long and difficult time of wait.
