Visiting during visa application process

My husband has already successfully come through CBP once during his visa application process, but he'll be doing so again in just 10 days (I hope!). This time it seems even more important than ever before, since during this visit we'll be giving birth to our baby. He has a whole binder of proof of ties to France, plus a round-trip ticket that takes him back to France within 90 days, to show CBP that he isn't going to try to remain here illegally. But we need to decide if he should tell CBP about the baby right away, or not bother mentioning it unless they ask? We've gotten conflicting advice (don't offer any extra information vs. be as honest as possible) and we just want to be as certain as we can that he'll make it through for our baby's birth. What do you think: should he tell CBP about the baby, or not mention it unless/until they ask for further information?

IMO if the CBP officer asked my husband what he was doing in the US, I would tell him to tell them I'm havin' a baby! That way if someone is crabby that day, missing his child's birth might appeal to his better side. As long as you have your ties and copies of your proof of filing status, you should be fine.
