Hello my dear VJ friends!!!

I am so happy to share the great news with you. My fiance is finally here with me. :) I can't be any happier. From the bottom of my heart I thank each and everyone of you for all your support and of course a big thanks to this great website that helped me along the way. Now that my fiance is here, what is the next step? Can we get married without him having a SSN? Can I now apply for a work permit for him? What else has to be done right away? Please guide me through. God bless you all.

Get married and Read the Guides for AOS.

Can we get married without him having a SSN?

Yes, but apply the SSN after about 2-3 weeks of POE.

Can I now apply for a work permit for him?

No, you must marry and then AOS for the EAD and then the GC to be used to legally work.

What else has to be done right away?

Get married.

Please guide me through. God bless you all.

CONGRATULATIONS !!!!

I generally agree with baron555's responses. Please check the the marriage requirements of your particular State, there may be differences. Check out the great listing on State services by fellow forum member, LeftCoastLady: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/361739-quick-reference-guide-for-state-level-services/

I am assuming that you guys were doing the K-1 visa, however your timeline is absent. :time: It helps everyone that uses this site.

I just called the court office here in WI and went through auto answering machine. The information given there about marriage certificate requirements is that both parties(Bride and Groom) must show proof of SSN. I am confused. Does this mean my fiance doesn't need to have a SSN when getting married, but has to have when applying for marriage license? Am I right? Someone please help!

Which county? You can use this link to find information on the specific county (just click on the county and it will bring up the info) where you're planning to marry, or google "[name of county in Wisconsin] county clerk marriage license" to get the details. I noticed in some WI counties that there are differences on the requirements regarding age, when the license can be used, etc.
