I imagine the brands and recipes for some of the most well-known treats will be some of the things that find a good home in a bankruptcy auction. People still buy twinkies. Someone will want to make them.

As was noted by the owners of Hostess, the market is already overcapacity, there are plenty of non-union competitors making the same things under different brands, and even if some company bought the Hostess brand, they would not need to reopen the closed bakeries, or hire any of the union workers.

Kellogg did the exact same thing when they bought the keebler brand in my hometown. They asked the Local Union for some concessions in order for the plant to be profitable. They Union refused and they shut the plant down and moved production to one of it's more profitable plants.

Now most of the workers are working much harder for much less. It's a basic law of economics. Unions and their mentality are just Dumb Arses,

Sure, I'm not saying that anyone would get their job back. I'm just saying I bet you'll continue to see twinkies on your grocery store shelf for years to come. That's just my gut, though.

The union workers there were making a whopping $11.62 an hour. Management wanted them to take a 5% pay cut after management had given themselves raises just a few years before. I'm going to miss the Ding Dongs, Ho Ho's, Fruit pies and Suzie Q's the most. I grew up on those and they were great. Little Debbie can't touch Hostess products with a 10' pole. Hostess curb stomped them for years and for good reason. Taste.

The dramatis personae are impressive: the Teamsters; two large hedge funds, Silver Point Capital and Monarch Alternative Capital; and the private-equity firm Ripplewood Holdings.

I'm sure the debt the company owed to the hedge firms and the equity firm played a large part in its closure. And when was the last time you actually bought a Twinkie? Changing markets.
