NVC wants Police Certificate from my country of birth where there is no central government to issue one!

What should I do? Please advise me as am worried!!

Looking at this page here for Somalia: http://travel.state.gov/visa/fees/fees_5455.html?cid=9738#docs there are no police records available for this country. Contact NVC and tell them this (that it's on their own site!). They'll most likely escalate your case for a supervisor to review it. Do this ASAP. The supervisor review should only take a week or two.

Hi saylin

thanks for your reply, I think thats the only way I can handle this checklist but do I need to call them or just send an email? It seems email will take time to be reviewed.

I am really sad and worried about this one.

every somali person who is on the same boat with me here in Ethiopia says he/she was never asked about Somali Police Certificate.

Why only me??

Call them up! They're still open for 45 more minutes today!!

And don't worry about why YOU were asked for it. It was the reviewer's fault. Not all of them know ALL of EVERY country's different requirements. It was just a mistake on their part.

i called them yesterday and the lady on the phone said all they can see is that I have a checklist of Somlaia Police Certificate, I explained that there is no central authority to issue one and their website indicates that too but she was very strict lady and said Sir thats all I can see and in order for your case to be processed you have to send the police clearance,

i am lost and confused about what to do next...

Call back again Monday, and tell an operator you want your case to be re-reviewed by a supervisor as you CANNOT send in a police certificate, and that it states so on their own website.

Hi Saylin

thanks for all your assistance, I callled NVC last night and the lady on the phone said after telling her that there is no Somalia Police Certificate available that I send back the email with the checklist to NVC and state that you cannot get Police Certificate from Somalia.

I did send back the checklist email and a letter explaining the reason I cannot get the certificate.

Do you think that will help and how long will I know what has been done to my case.

Thanks again and again

Hopefully that helps. And I hope you hear back soon. Could be a week or two before you hear anything. Keep calling NVC every day they're open and inquire about your case status.

It should be a case complete (unless something else is missing/incorrect). Keep calling NVC every single day to stay as up to date as possible.

I would like to thank VJ members for their enormous support during this process, I would like to thank Saylin for her continous tips and help.

Finally i received an email from NVC for case complete, below is the letter

Dear Sir or Madam: The National Visa Center has received all

documentation necessary to complete pre-

processing

of your case. As soon as an interview date has

been scheduled, the applicant, petitioner

and attorney (if applicable) will be notified. The applicant should NOT make any travel

arrangements, sell property, or give up

employment

until the US Embassy or Consulate General has

issued a visa.

Thanks all
